I already have a CD-ROM installed. (it was in the original PC setup)

Now I will install a Burner (a CD - Recorder)

can a board have 3 IDE slots?, PAK, just slave off the HD
    Red, I think it has.

I saw 2 IDE cables starting from the MB from 2 different slots.

There was another one big slot next to these two... propably an IDE slot? no?

        KA31 - Slot 1 Motherboard, microATX, FSB 86~150 MHz, UDMA/66, AGP 4x, for Pentium III 450-733+ Pentium II 233-450 Celeron 266-433MHz Celeron PPGA 300-533+, VIA Apollo Pro 133A, 3 DIMM 768MB max SDRAM ECC support, 4 IDE, UDMA/66, 1 AGP 3 PCI 1 ISA
        Several mbs have them yes.

Ok then you need to take the IDE cable off the cdrom you have installed already. Put that into the burner.
Then hook the old cdrom up to the middle cable of the IDE going to you hd. Make sure you change the jumper on the back of the old cdrom to slave. It is really not nessary to use the middle IDE plug on the cable but it if reaches do it. If not unplug the IDE from the HD and put the end into the burner and the middle into the HD. Sometimes it does matter on old MB's so try the middle one first.

Thats it for now we will see if your computer recognizes it at reboot

You may have as the example I gave above it has four and is an old slot one. I would need the model and name of it to be sure though.

Also, those godamn morons at the store didn't also tell me that I needed a pair of plastic thingies to screw the.. err.. screws (I suffer with my limited english here) on the Burner and THEN put it in the case...

That was my 2nd visit to the store just for those ****ing plastic straps.

Now I will go there for a 3rd time, with a death wish.

Damn... I dont remember the brand...

                I THINK Chaintech?

No idea about other specification though. The book of the MB is lost somewhere in my library abyss.

Plus the Burner looks a bit uneven in the case...

I have mounted it on but have not, obviously, connected it yet.

I Hope it doesnt matter if it is not 100% even....

I'll try to even it out when I get the IDE cable.

It does matter so play with it until you get it even especially side to side. If it sticks out or in to much you can ajust that easy. Do not screw it in all the way untill you have checked all your work

I was afraid you were going to say that

The thing is that the holes on the plastic thingies do not EXACTLY match the holes on the Burner so the screws are just a bit forced in.

It is a tiny bit unever side to side.

Will try to fix that too.

Damn, I'm gonna be making tons of audio Cds after I have installed that damn thing to get my revenge

                    (I already have the MP3s )

i don't think you can have 3, as Black said, just keep the CDR on it's own ribbon and connect the other 2 as M and S

Is this the board you have? if so it came with a three ide slot option.

If that is the board here:

Is the main page for it with the current bios and drivers for your onboard sound etc. Plus the specs and you can get the manual for it from that site.

That looks very much like my MB, yes. Sorry for not being able to be more specific. I appreciate your help.

Red and Blackice, so JUST IN CASE, there are no 3 IDE slots (although I am sure I have seen one free and I think it was an IDE slot)

The HD will be made: master

the CD - ROM will be made :slave

and the Burner what? master or slave?

                                OK, thanks

BTW, I'd still need an IDE cable to connect the CD ROM with the middle socket of the HD IDE cable...

Because it cannot reach the CD - ROM as it is...

Hope there is no problem in that?
