Yes, but that was in an entirely different day and age, with an entirely different set of circumstances.

"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

That's cool. Next question (and last, just for the mods): what sort of profession are you heading toward by studying politics and philosophy (just thought about that one today, you see I think of you )?

Ideally "World Famous Rock Star with lots of groupies". Failing that, I'd settle for either journalist or publisher, both of which I've been looking into.

          Heh, thanks.

Anyway, many of those countries up there are officially no nuclear powers. And apart from a mysterious thing like Israel, I couldn't think of any country that wouldn't brag about having nukes, since nukes are there for deterrance, not killing (politically speaking).

Well, excuse me, but this is where I got my list, and unfortunately I didn't have time to read the specifics on each nation.

Irrelevent. The fact remains that to this day, the US and the US alone, has ever dared to use nuclear weapons in a war. No other country, no matter how "evil" has ever done this. It's only logical to asume that a nation who has used these weapons of terror in the past, is more likely to use them again.

Marcus makes a good point actually. We are the only country to lose our Nuclear virginity, so to speak. So even not taking into account the current war on terrorism, it logically follows that we would probably have less hesistation to use them again.

At the end of World War II, no one else in the world had nuclear weapons than the United States, therefore there wasn't the threat of M.A.D. (mutually assured destruction). After using nuclear weapons the U.S. had time to convince the world that the bombing was justified, before someone else developed nuclear weapons and retaliated against the U.S.

Considering how few consider that worst act of terrorism in recent history to be justified, the US has largely failed in that respect, I'd say.

The circumstances aren't radically different either. If the US could drop the bomb on civilians in enemy land without bringing down world opinion on itself it wouldn't bat an eyelid.

so basically , you're saying that the only reason the US doesn't use nukes now, is that it might get nuked itself ?
