Btw, Johannes is the Devil. Never utter his name out loud unless you wish to summon him. Yes, this is a very bad, repetitive and obscure inside joke, but I'll keep it that way.

Ioannes is Latin for John. It's likely that German and Finnish both corrupted it in the same way.
Andy, I'm going to be startin German in the fall. Would you be up for helping me practice when I do? Or able to refer me to anywhere I could get practice?
Well Germans have some wierd names for Romanian cities:
Oradea = Grosswardein
Sibiu = Hermannstadt
etc.
I think in Romanian we do tend to turn foreign monarch names into more Romanian forms (Charles -> Carol, Elizabeth -> Elizabeta, etc.)

One of the few good things done by the Communist Chinese government was switching over the official translation system from Wade-Giles (Peking) to Pinyin (Beijing). Sure, some of the city names are less neat, but Pinyin actually uses the letters of the alphabet and doesn't insert diacritical marks everywhere.
All syllogisms have three parts.
Therefore this is not a syllogism.

-Nah. I was 6, but German is my second language, and I had spent some time in some of the Germanic villages in Transilvania where only German was spoken, but I myself am only 1/32 Austrian, 31/32 Romanian.

I wonder what moden King John of England would be.
Only one way to find out. Prince William (who would become King Vilhelm, presumably) must name his son 'John'.
That'd never happen. King John was the guy that signed the Magna Carta, and that act is so repugnant to royalty that--even though "John" is the most popular name in English--there has never been another King John.

You are going to study German? I've been there. Good luck. You're doomed.
