I agree with everything you've said but theres ONE exception to that(I think-but no your right, you do have to be rich to become president): Jimmy Carter:He was born to a middle class familly, then later became indipendantly wealthy through peanut farming.

    • You can't complain about the US elections, they were the funniest political thing that's happened for years. Still makes be laugh. The greatest nation on earth reduced to arguing about pregnant chads. Top comedy.

They should get Vince McMahon to stage the next one.

      • Yes, it's very funny, until you realize that it put a man like Bush in charge of many thousands of nuclear weapons

          • I love the way the 'America is a republic, not a democracy' line is always trotted out to excuse any deficiency in the electoral process.

Part of the issue is that normal people look at politics and get disgusted and never run.

The other issue is that corporations just want those who are in their pockets to win and that means the rich.

-And to utterly exclude people from the Presidency because thy were not born here?

How about Bill Clinton? Born poor and from Arkansas. Yet on his talents and intelligence he was able to become the President of the United States.

Sure, he's more of an exception than a rule, but he shows it is possible. Just don't expect it to be a Republican who does it.

                        • Why would a smart man from a poor background be a Republican?

Boris, have you ever approached an issued by first thinking it through without knowing what the parties' positions were on it?

I don't think you know enough about my positions on issues to think I'm some sort of slave to a party line. I don't care for either of the major parties much, but I find the Republicans to be the far more repugnant and hypocritical of the two.

Yeah, but Boris. We have all sorts here on Apolyton. I am sure you read and respond to posts based on the merits of the arguments rather than on the party affiliation of the poster, particularly since so many are not from the United States.

Isn't this a proper approach across the board?
