Is that it? I have a Flame Tongue and gaunlets of orge strength. Plus, being a ranger, I have special bonuses versus giants, IIRC. Orges are considered to be giants for this purpose.

The ogre that you summoned them against is stone dead.

        Urban:

How much damage does a flame tongue do, and what bonuses do you get from your gauntlet/class?

        Sorry

          • Gauntlets of Ogre Strength set strength to 18. Or at least in Baldur's Gate they do.

            • Gaunlets of Orge Strength set strength to 18/00. Flame Tongue is usually +1, but it has weird bonuses. As for class, I can't recall right now.

I think you're right... next turn, they're on ogre 3.

                Urban:

I was talking about base damage (you know, like short sword: 1d6/1d8). And +8 damage is pretty respectable.

                • This is what I found so far.

Have bonus fighting humanoid creatures of "giant" class (bugbear, ettin, giant, gnoll, goblin, hobgoblin, kobold, orge, ogre magi, orc + troll).

                  • HAH, fear my bees you ogres. They will show you no quarter and mercilessly sting you a thousand times (if anyone makes a remark about bees dying after they've stung I ask permission to summon a fiend or something and just let it kill us all)

                    • Here is what the Flame Tongue does:

+1, +2 vs. regenerating creatures, +3 vs. cold-using, flammable, or avian creatures, +4 vs. undead; sheds light and flames on command

                        That doesn't help.

What the hell, I'll assume it's based on the long-sword.

So your damage is 1d12+8 against ogres... (or 9-20).

                        • Rangers can also fight with two weapons, one in each hand, without penalties.

                          IIRC.

                          • Can't find any actual bonuses of fighting giant humanoids on the Web. We need help from somebody who actually has the PH.

                            Vlad,

Yeah, it's based on the long sword.

                            • Well, it's a +4 bonus on attack against your species enemy. This can include ogres.

Actually, you need to select a species enemy before you advance to 2nd level. I'll have it as ogres. (Remember, no actual damage bonus from this, just to-hit bonus.)

And since you didn't specify your other weapon, it's a short sword, a normal short sword.

                              • UR: Are you a dwarf or something? I don't think that Rangers get an automatic bonus against giants anymore--they have to specify the race types that they get bonuses against.

Vlad: The ranger bonus applies to a category of monsters (Giants, Aberrations, Undead, Dragons, etc.), not just a single species, IIRC.
