FR of Germany vs US of America - War of the Worlds
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
Sten; Saw the incident from another angle and it didn't look like the ball hit the hand at the time of that photo but later when his arm was almost alongside his body. That makes it even harder.
I'm actually surprised the Americans on this board react in such a calm way. Europeans would be outraged if their teams lost under such considitions. That can be evidence for being really relaxed, but also for being totally indifferent about the true and only football.
I think our c'est la vie attitude is partially because the Mexicans cried and blamed the ref for losing and so did the Italians. We want to be able to win regardless of the ref. The reality is that it was a tough call to make in real time. (I have posted before that I was not a big fan of Hugh Dallas - I think he is really random on calls)
It's also hard to feel outraged when your team made it further into the tournament than anyone had any right to expect, and even went down playing pretty well.

This may have actually been just after the ball hit his arm and he is reacting by pulling it away, his arm was closer to his body when the ball hit it I think. From the replays I saw he didn't move his arm between the time Berhalter shot and when it hit his arm, so the incident was apparently unintentional - however, I think the rule is that a defender with his arm away from his body can be called for the infraction even if it was unintentional. Not sure about that - not exactly my field.

Yeah, well we went down with honor. If our team had sucked, we'd be a bit mad, and if we had 3 goals disllowed or something similarly horrific in the same game we'd probably be mad, but as it stands we got to watch a great soccer match and the US to still do better than everyone expected. I'll take it.
I hope that the TV ratings thing is more indicative of hockey's decline than NASCAR's rise. Hockey at least can be interesting, even if some people are out to actively ruin the sport via all the stupid fighting things. NASCAR... car racing is only fun when you can blow stuff up and your car comes back after it falls off a ledge. IE electronic, silly car racing that's not actually about car racing.
All syllogisms have three parts.
Therefore this is not a syllogism.
