Maybe its because we are the country involved and Big Brother has his eye on us? And I really don't understand why most of the USians on ACS haven't heard about this...
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
    Once again...

So much for the European community.

Seriously. I can not find any information about this on CNN, FOX, MSNBC, etc.

Maybe that's because news about small countries isn't supposed to be of interest for US viewers?

            Thanks dino

Will one of you legal gurus tell me what this is saying?

            Article 8 (2) (a) (ii)-2
            War crime of inhuman treatment

            Elements

            1. The perpetrator inflicted severe physical or mental pain or suffering upon one or more persons.
            2. Such person or persons were protected under one or more of the Geneva Conventions of 1949.
            3. The perpetrator was aware of the factual circumstances that established that protected status.
            4. The conduct took place in the context of and was associated with an international armed conflict.
            5. The perpetrator was aware of factual circumstances that established the existence of an armed conflict.

              Hueij ,
              True,
Most of the international coverage these days is either
              1. Afghanistan
              2. Indian border conflict
              3. Isr/Pal
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I can understand why that is, but it worries me. The US is THE world power nowadays so shouldn't her people at least be informed about how the rest of the world fares?

I don't know if you mean this as a joke but the rest of us get the impression this is true. Not something to feel secure about...

                    • This is an interesting read. Has anyone read the notes on the those that have signed on?

Has Russia or Australia signed on as of yet?

                      • I'm serious. There are many people who care about the rest of the world, but many just want to look inward. Being the self-centered people they are, they just focus on their own problems and forget about everything outside themselves. Many don't even care about national politics.

People in the US work more hours than most, people don't want to get home from work and look into issues that don't directly affect them.

The sad thing is that you'll find a higher percentage of better informed people at Apolyton then in the general population. By a lot.

I did see a quick summary of this in the paper this week, but it was buried on page 20. Not many people get that far.

I know, but even here I see some Americans spout the greatest nonsense about Europe or the rest of the world. Sometimes I'm really having trouble not to troll against America...

                            • Hueij: You're the ones who think they're going to get invaded. That is about the silliest serious misconception I've heard in a long time.

We know we are not going to be invaded. It's the realisation that our biggest ally doesn't think twice about how about other nations and people think and automatically assumes that their point of view is the one and only. It's not only the Invasion Act, it's also Kyoto, it's also Start2, it's the way the US thinks it is ruling the world.
