  • This site sets a record!

This is the oldest site on the internet. Some users have been registered since 1970! Wow!

That is so pathetic. Why would someone hack this site just to get a stupid "king" title. Even MarkG has that Jan 1970 on his profile. Ugh...

I know this is really OT, but how do you do this?

My king title was earned through hardcore spamming, not hacking, thank you very much.

But I think the posters that show a registration date of 1969 have been around since 'the big change over', or something, and they...

hmm, yeah.. I am not sure why.

It's a bug in vBulletin, and the 1969/1970-thingy depends on your timezone.

Unix systems count time in seconds since Midnight of January 1. 1970 GMT.

From which we can conclude that when moving people from the old board to the new, their registration date was set to 0, which is interpreted as 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT.

Depending on your time zone this date will be either Dec 31 1969 or Jan 1 1970.

I didn't even know they had the Internet until 1996. I was born in '80.

But then....I don't know a lot of stuff.

They have the Internet since the early '60s IIRC. But it was only opened in 1991.

AOL started the internet craze. 1996 was when the real internet appeared. Not 2 mainframes playing pong in the 60's.

Then charged them a ridiculous amount of money to have the slowest connection in the western world, enough "services" to slow your PC to a crawl, the godawfulist IM in the world, more disconnects, line failures, loss of connection and unable to dial-ups than any other IP with more than 3 customers, and Connie, the ginger-haired bint who should be tied up and shot through her keywords.

AOL has actually been proven to be a reliable, if slightly expensive, ISP for people that don't have cable or DSL available where they live

Other ISPs are unreliable, AOL isn't going to go under like the 20,000 other ones since the tech companies all died. For an ISP in this economy, AOL is holding together very, very well in both its service and its company.
