  • Famous Swedes

Since we already have three threads like this, another one surely can't hurt.

All except Max Martin, Carl Wilhelm Scheele, Sven-Göran Eriksson and Lennart Johansson.

BTW, can 'Famous Norwegians' be far behind?

      Let's see:

      1. Vidkun Quisling
      2. Varg Vikernes

      umm... err... uhh...
"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency
"That’s the future of the Democratic Party: providing Republicans with a number of cute (but not that bright) comfort women." - Adam Yoshida, Canada's gift to the world

All, except for Max Martin, Carolus Linneaus and Carl Wilhelm Scheele. I suspect they must be Swedish beer drinking champions or maybe hold the record for having the longest hair i länet.

Omissions would seem to be Ingemar Stenmark, Alfred Nobel and quite a few others who had the misfortune of being born just a little too far East, poor chaps.

The list underrepresents some great sportsmen and women. A golfer, a couple tennis players, a couple downhill skiers and at least two dozen hockey players would all be instantly recognizable for me.

I enjoyed the fiction of Sjowall and Wahloo but I don't know how popular their detective series was.

Glad to hear that someone is claiming Pam as Swedish. We don't want her.

I put two sportsmen, a manager and a top-level sports official in there...

Sjövall-Wahlöö would have been a good suggestion.

In many countries Carolus Linnaeus is known as Carl von Linée, his secular name. I went for the one more commonly used in England.

And before Boris starts screeming about Opera singers like he did in the other thread:

Yes, I could have put Jussi Björling on there. But I didn't.

Why did you leave out Sten Sture?
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
