I've seen those stats too, Tom. It's difficult to convince people here in the States that decriminalization won't lead to everybody getting high, even when there is evidence to demonstrate that though.
Legalization and taxation would be the way to go.

There were some Dutch people in WW2 who risked their lives to save the Jews. Some ended up in German concentration camps for their efforts, and some died there. I can never despise the Dutch people for their humanity in this time of testing. For the ones who delivered their neighbors to the Nazis I can only say that every good country has their bad apples. I judge the nation as an asset to humanity.

I am half dutch; and I noticed that so many dutch ppl seem to sin like there's no tomorrow; sex, drugs and money.
So how is this different from, e.g., the US of A?
BTW, "to sin" is a Christian verb. A majority of the Dutch are not Christians. Take on a philosophical attitude for five minutes and ask yourself why you seem to think of Christianity as a default ideology which is above all discussion. That's the way Muslims look at Islam.
In spite of what your prejudiced opinions suggest, even our most "sinful" city, Amsterdam, is a much more pleasant place to live in than Washington, London or Paris -- less crime, fewer drugs victims, less corruption, less racism, fewer abortions.
I was recently in Paris and Amsterdam, and I have to say a felt a little bit safer in Paris than Amsterdam at night. Maybe they are just more visible, but there seems to be more aggressive bums in Amsterdam.
I still like Amsterdam better overall though.

In California it is now legal to smoke in public places -- but no exhaling allowed. So far this new anti-smoking strategy is working. Three hundred and forty former smokers are now dead (from exploded lungs).
Less crime ? Well hell yes. If everything is legal there's bound to be less crime.

I like the Netherlands and the Dutch. I personally approve of their government's policies almost entirely, with the exception being their policy of giving money to the PLO.
There is one smear on Dutch history, and that is their colonialism and imperialism, but all European countries have some of that.
I refute it thus!

That's only in Chicago.
