  • Tons of Hollywood movies go overboard on flag-waving. It bugs me sometimes, but in this particular case, though I haven't seen the movie yet, it makes a modicum of sense. Set in New York, released post-9/11... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that putting in a shot of Spidey w/flag will sell in the US. And the movie was made to sell in the US. If that hurts sales in Greece (which it apparently didn't, at least in your case), it was probably still worth it. Americans like their flag, Mark. And most of 'em couldn't care less what you think of it.

greek like their flag too. you wont see it in the end of greek movies though, nor will you see many "our country is great" greek movies

is that supposed to be an argument that could change my opinion?

      • It couldn't possibly be as annoying as The Patriot. I mean, how many US kids are going to grow up thinking that that sh!t really happened?

(Especially that scene where the British try and free Gibson's slaves only for them to turn around and say they are all free men and then fight to uphold the American dream... )

        • Yeah, the Patriot was awful. Total crap - with the possible exception of the one scene where Gibson's character has to come clean about slaughtering a bunch of Frenchmen. I don't recall the slave freeing scene (didn't watch the whole thing, couldn't), but I'll take your word for it.

is that supposed to be an argument that could change my opinion?
Nope, it wasn't. It was a simple statement of fact, relating to the most likely purpose behind adding the flag scene - to sell the movie to Americans. And, in the immortal words of Forrest Gump, that's all I have to say about that.

          • I went into Spider-Man bracing myself for the ending scene, but when it finally came around I was extremely underwhelmed. That flag was hardly overwhelming. I was expecting it to be Patton-esque, with spidy crouching and a huge flag waving behind him. Basically you guys are mad that spidey happened to be on a roof with a flag on it...

                • Saw the movie yesterday. I definitely didn't want to, but my friends did, so I followed.

Well, this is one hell of a crap movie! The guy is a total ****er! The girl throws herself into his arms, saying "I don't love spiderman - I love Peter Parker" and the guys just stands there and says (to himself) "sorry, no can do, the way of the hero, responsibilities come with power, blah, blah..."

Hello?! What kind of lame excuse is that? How did Superman manage then? How could he have both his powers and the girl?

The way they made his best friend hate spiderman to make an excuse for a sequel is pretty lame too. Couldn't spiderman tell him sth like "It's the Green Goblin who killed your father, it happened like this:....." and devise some excuse?

Other lame spot, the moment the GG faces the wrath of the New Yorkers. Come on!

Plus the movie had all those sllllloooowwww dialogs which didn't fit well with the extremely fast action. Plus it lost all the humour it had at the beginning.

In a time that media didn't exist, simple persons could discern right from wrong. While European States supported Ottoman Empire under the status of Holly Alliance, simple European and American people as well as intelectuals (American Samuel Howe, British Lord Byron, Gaite, Victor Ugho, etc) supported the fight of hellenic people for liberation. 300 phillelenes (142 Germans, 42 Italians, 11 Swiss, 60 French, 3 Americans, 21 British, 11 Polish, 10 Scandinavians, 17 Dutch etc) are estimated to have been killed
