But please go back a little further, to the American 'Revolution'.

This series of events culminating in an insurrection was EQUALLY illegal!

The revolution violated numerous legal Acts of Parliament and the common law.

How is the US constitution a legally binding document aside from brute force and mob rule?

There was no Act in parliament to make it the law of the land.

I view ALL Americans as rebels.

They expropriated the property of my ancestors totally illegally, through no law recognized in Parliament.

I demand compensation!

You missed the most important one:

In the American Revolution, the Rebels WON .

So the laws of Parliament don't matter as soon as the Peace Treaty was signed. Therefore, no compensation, it was all given up because of a treaty of peace.

And yes we were rebels, and did violate the law, but we won .

I'm not a big shooter. Did get my sharpshooter ribbon for .45. (in 1984...) Got some training from one of the guys on the USNA pistol team for a day or so. Yeah I hold both hands on the weapon because it's better firing position regardless. But it has a hell of an upwards kick. bends your elbows and moves overhead. I wouldn't like to think about controlling the weapon with one hand. Might fly out of your hand.

The kick means you have to pull the weapon back into position and resight pretty quickly. (I mean it's moved a ways.) Also, at least for me, makes it a little more psychologically hard to concentrate on squeezing versus pulling. the whole "let the gun go off" thing. I find myself tending to anticipate the recoil and (of course) messing up my sight alignment. Can overcome this...but it requires more concentration than with the 9mm, which is more gentle.

You must have shot .45 right? It's the standard pistol in the service. For guard duty and stuff like that.

I never fired a pistol for any official purpose while in the military, though I have fired my uncle's service .45. I fired it before I was really a decent shot with a handgun, and probably only put 25 rounds through it. So I'm no expert on the 1911, but it does jump up high, probably because it is blowback rather than gas operated (and perhaps due to the grip angle) and because it's throwing a lot of weight down the barrel (equal and opposite reaction). It is accurate however, and perhaps moreso because it forces you to pay more attention to the fundamentals. My uncle fired it one-handed, and he was like a machine, his arm snapping up and falling back on line for the next shot.

My experience in the military was limited to the M-16 and G-3 assault weapons and the M-60 and MG-3 machineguns, hand grenades, M-203 grenade launcher and the LAW rocket. To my dismay, I only shot sharpshooter with the M-16 (I had a bad day and missed expert by one), though I got a perfect score on the hand grenade course (go figure). I had a little trouble with the grenade launcher, but I was deadly accurate with the LAW rocket. I expected very different results. Weapons training was one of the funnest things I did in the military, it's too bad that we didn't do more of it.
