I'd love to take a year off and travel, but it is just financing it which is the problem

How much did they offer you Gibsie?

I am looking for jobs at the moment, there are a few I am going to apply to at the moment.

Sorry GP, I missed that post with the name of the company. I shall check it out.

Well not either really, it was because the department had **** facilities, my supervision was next to nonexistent and my project had no form. I just couldn't see myself continuing under the circumstances. I just couldn't get on with anything or get the opportunity to make a decent go of it. It was making me very depressed and I felt, for my own sanity, I had to quit rather than flog a dead horse.

Isnt the first thing to decide then whether you want to continue in research at all? If yes, in the same field? If yes, then you know what you have to do? Get out there and find another graduate position.

I suspect you know by now that the publics view of scientists as guys in white coats and glasses with jobs for life is crap. You've got to love it and you've got to fight for respect every step of the way.

I was offered £7500 for 12 months' work.

I'd rather spend a year working on the checkout at Tescos full-time.

From what you tell me... Emigrate the US... with your education you could make decent money here.

you are in debt I presume and that is hanging over your head... perhaps if you can put it on hold you can save one year in your twenties for a normal life.

I'd rather spend a year in the semen tub than do either though

Where does that leave the £7500/yr offer

And Provost try London jobs over the net.. as you are almost PHD level the entry level and pay might be high enough to support the cost of living and get you better difference (or take home) than other parts of the country.

And the choice is surely the biggest...

                              • I don't really fancy London though, the pay never seems to be that high for these kinds of jobs, and then there is getting around the damn place. Eughhh. It's been one of my no-no's is moving to London.
