  • Where does your screenname come from?

I've got several. On here I mostly go by Asher. Asher comes from an "unofficial middlename" that almost became my real middle name. It would have made my initials DAM, so my parents wouldn't have that ( ), so they changed it to something else so it's now DRM. Since some of my friends found out ages ago, they started calling me Asher as a joke-thing, and it started sticking since there were usually another couple "Davids" in class also. It's far more unique so it's easier to go by. So now many of my friends call me Asher or Ash (which I wasn't fond of at first, since it's short for Ashley usually, but it stuck). Anyway, so that's my login here now.

My other screenname has been Glonk. This actually comes from GLONK, which stands for General Lifeform Optimized for Nocturnal Killing. I began using this screenname on games like TradeWars in the early 90s, been using it since in most places. My AIM screenname is a variation of this ("Glonk" was taken...grr), and is "El Glonko". Which is the Spanish version of the name.

Where did yours come from? (Jon Miller need not apply)

Mine's a derivative of "Scribble," the name of the main character and narrator of the very weird science-fiction novel "Vurt" by Jeff Noon.

Mac - My last name starts with McK

TBone - I play an instrument, and when I made the screen name it was the thing that 'defined' me.

I came up with it when I needed a name for Starcraft, way back when. So far I've only had one place where the name was taken (stupid AIM), and the guy was a real freak about me messaging him. Whenever the name is taken I just put a 0 on the end, although that's usually just when I forget my password.

(If you haven't figured it out yet, I play the trombone. Posaune in Deutsch)
I never know their names, But i smile just the same

My screenname before was technophile, which was just sort of the first thing that popped into my head when I delurked. I think I was posting on the Technology thread on the CivIII Suggestions forum, so it seemed appropriate; I also played as Zakharov most often in SMAc, so again, it seemed appropriate.

I changed to loinburger because I got tired of technophile, and had also taken to using loinburger elsewhere (like in TFC, or when playing Drunken Timesplitters). A loinburger is the name that Alfie's Inn (in Glen Ellyn, IL) gives to its hamburgers.

My name comes from my political (specifically my economic) beliefs.

I used to use a different name for everything I did on the 'net, I got tired of always changing it and stuck with the one I was using at the time. Which just happened to be "Osweld the Brute" in Asheron's Call - I didn't realize 'Osweld' was usually spelled with an A at the time, but i've come to like the E anyways, since it almost always ensures that I get a unique user name, and I like to listen to people tell me that I don't know how to spell my own login.
