Yah, those calderas are the worst (natural) thing that could happen to the Earth. And yes, it's overdue to explode, but it is overdue to explode on a geological scale. Which means it could go off in three thousand years and still be relatively "on time".
As far as the asteroid goes, I'm pretty sure there was only a 1/300 chance that it will actually hit the Earth (I could be making the number up, but I think it was a small fraction) so it probably won't destroy the human civilization.
And I'm sure technology will be advanced enough. As our particle accelerators get bigger and bigger, we'll be able to find out better how the sub-atomic universe really works. And then we'll just turn on the gravity generator and fling the thing away.
