  • For the guys: Are you a shaker or a hugger?

So tell me do you shake hands or do you hug? Or do you do both?

I've noticed this happens alot here at the club. Men will come in for lunch and give the obligatory hand shake and be done with it. We have one gentlelmen that will shake and pull you in for the hug at the same time while giving you the customary "2 slaps on the back no I'm not gay" pat and then move on.

I have notice however, that most of the men he does this to will bristle up or back off as quickly as possible. Is it that it's just to personal or he's invading the space. It seems to make most of them very uncomfortable.

So do you shake or hug?

I don't do much of either, being a college student and all.

When I first meet people or don't know them, I'll shake.
But I end up getting hugged when I see people I know (only the girls really do that though).

It doesn't bother me. Now if some big Italian guy hugged me the first time I met him, that'd bother me.

I find it difficult to even shake someone's hand without making involuntary snarling noises. That's probably why I'm such a useless networker.

I shake hands with other men if I haven't seen them for a while or it's the first time. I hug and/or kiss many of the girls from my hometown on the cheeks. They don't do things like that where I live now. People are so much colder up north.

I nod my head in recognition. I shake hands only if the formal occassion requires it. I also avoid anything that invades my personal space which is at least two feet. It can often result in a general migration as I step back from people who keep stepping forward.

I usually shake hands only when meeting a person for the first time.

I sometimes hug girls or people that I haven't seen in a long time.

Depends. I will shake hands willy-nilly, that is nothing. A female will invariably get a hug, a male, well, depends on how close a friend they are. I am quite a tactile person, perhaps it is because of sensory deprivation in this regard normally as I have never had a partner.

I guess I fall into the hug catagory but only with people I've known for a while. Men just don't seem to be hugging material in formal situations. And if you do then it always seems like you have to do the slap on the back thing just to keep everything kosher

Pat on the back? Nah, that's for sissies. Real men stick one of their hands down their trousers and their tongue down their neck

I tend to glare at people long enough so they have no desire to touch me

I've noticed most males my age (or at least in the college I work at) do not understand the concept of a firm handshake, so I usually go with the head nod and obligatory "what's up?"

Males older than I, the hand shake works fine.

Women, unfortunately there aren't many around these days.
