"Other things" are irrelevant, unless you wanna just out-and-out violate the Constitution. If you do just say so.

      Ah, now I understand!

And I agree. The answer to a question shouldn't be that it is against the Constitution (unless it is a question about why doesn't the United States make some sort of law), but should include other reasons.

The reason I'm against banning of guns isn't because of the 2nd Amendment but because I believe in the freedom of people to own guns for hunting or self-defense.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
      - John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

I swear, sometimes DF and some of the other "Constitutionalists" sound as if they're part of a cult. I would hate it if some religious fundie wuted the bible all the time, and that's what it feels like these people do. They also refuse to look at other viewpoints, they say "It's right there, we can't argue". Well, we can and we should.
but according to the Law there is nothing else

in the US all LAw comes from the constitution

if something in it is wrong, then it should be changed

        by the mechanisms provided

        there is nothing about viewpoints

So David, according to the Constitution, I have the right to own a nuclear weapon?

Does that include semi-automatic, automatic, and other weapons? Couldn't we limit 'self defense' and 'hunting' guns to a specific realm of guns? If not, for what reason?

Do we really need another thread on the 2nd amendment? Especially one that is starting to just rehash the same damn arguments that have been beaten to death on the other two threads???

Well then, I hope your war on terror President doesn't mind if I obtained some nuclear weapons and stored them in my basement.

                          You're an absolute riot DF.

I just want to hear a cop come over and say "you got a permit for that?"

David doesn't like permits of any kind either. They violate privacy.

                                I have to agree, Mac.

The Constitution was an innovative document, but it had and still has a lot of flaws. Just because a principle is legal or illegal according to the Constitution doesn't automatically justify or invalidate it. The Xth Amendment or Article A Section B, like "national sovereignty" and similar catch-phrases tend to become abused in this manner.
"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "
