Very interesting, thanks KH."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

I must say that I agree that most classical music is simply boring and has no 'soul'...perhaps it is just that it is not my thing, but I remember at Oxford when I have gone along to classical music recitals to be polite when friends have been playing, and within 10 minutes it isI will be fast asleep and invariably another friend will have to wake me up. Quite frankly, I could have more fun clipping my toenails

In general I think I vaguely agree with monolith, but with the caveat that I instantly prefer Beethoven's 9th (and a few other classical pieces) to most classical music and anything by Pink Floyd. Bit more groove. Bit more energy. Also found in many old pieces of popular music.
What I object to is the extremely safe establishment world of most classical music, prog rock, classic rock, and most other mainstream forms of expression. There is no tension, no challenge in the damn music.Världsstad - Dom lokala genrenas vän

Snapcase: back in those days, different composers did different levels of experimentation. Chopin and Mozart I consider to be the "prog rock" of their time. But tchaikovsky, beethoven, and rimsky-korsakov, my personal favorite, all had the edge. You could consider them the Pixies of their time.
"has no 'soul'" Ugh. You've obviously never heard Scheherezade. Soooo beautiful.
I'll agree to disagree with Pink Floyd, snapcase. I don't really see what your problem is with them. Admittedly, I hate the stuff after Roger Waters left, but then again it wasn't really PF without Roger.

Ok.... A drone, a few buzzing noises. Actually sounds quite like radiohead, only different. More subtle.
Guitar comes in. Fairly standard. First on the left channel, and then on the right. Still can't see what you hate.
Welcome my son, welcome to the machine. The lyrics: perhaps they're not what you like? Well, I can't understand that either. You've been in the pipeline filling oyur time... The lyrics coupled with the style of singing really bemoan the slippage into the corporate structure, the proverbial selling out. How is that different from any other song that bemoands "selling out"?"mono has crazy flow and can rhyme words that shouldn't, like Eminem"

A normal, healthy attention span is about 15 to 20 minutes. Due to our "sound-bite" culture, with fast food, fast commercials, fast programs, and (judging from mtv) fast women, we simply can't be patient anymore.
Classical music, you will notice, rarely goes above that, and if it does, it is part of a series, in which there are different parts to the series."mono has crazy flow and can rhyme words that shouldn't, like Eminem"

Monolith, me and thee seem to be having a few crosswords nowadaysDon't get me wrong, there is classical music which I have found I like, but for the most part, it is all very dreary. I just think it lacks a certain something.
I will stick to my punk thanks (and whatever else I chose to listen to)Speaking of Erith:
