    **ROTFLMAO**

I'm just positive that our friends in Britain, Germany and elsewhere would love being viewed in that manner. But, yes, that is a nice side effect of having allies ... our enemies have a harder time taking us all down.

Kind of disturbing that the Canadian forces have been capturing a bunch of prisoners that no one knew about...

Where do the Canadian Taliban prisoners go to? We have a nice base up at Alert...

PS: It was cool they got they game out to the troops at Kandahar.

PPS: Good punishment for al-Qaeda prisoners...put them in the Canadian women's hockey locker room...

They went to camp X-Ray as well.

A bit more on the ANZAC contributions

Australia has also taken up much of the efforts in enforcing sanctions against Iraq, thereby freeing up US ships for service elsewhere. This has involved several frigates, a troop/command ship and some Orion patrol aircraft (AKA a very sizeable chunk of the navy)

It is also likely that Australia is providing signals intelligence on terrorist groups in the Phillipines and Indonesia (Australia boasts a top quality 'Sig Int' service, that's at least as good as the NSA).

New Zealand has 'unoffically' sent a platoon of SAS troopers who are believed to be operating with the Australian contingent.

Perhaps we should offer to the Americans to replace our contribution with Wiglaf.

i thought that NZ was getting rid of most of their army

Nah, Wiglaf claims to be an American anyways, so that would be replacing Australians with an American. UNLESS you know something we don't horse... Are you confessing to owning Wiglaf?

Good post. Not only is it expertly directed to it's intended audience, it is also amusing and true.

They've sold off their all their combat aircraft, but the army is being strenghtened (mainly for peacekeeping missions). Pound for pound, they're better equipped then the Australian Army. (but only have two battalians compared to Australia's nine)

We have 9 battalions now? We haven't had that for a long time.

This is interesting link for an overview of the militaries of US allies. Please ignore the content regarding the capabilities of "potential adversaries", as I'm sure some of you will object to it as coming from a biased source...

Isn't the government forming an extra brigade? (which will take us from 6 to 9 battalions)

Yes I think they are but I didn't know it had happened yet. The Royal Australian Regiment got down as low as 4 or 5 Battalions at one stage.

Interesting thread, lord of the mark, but it would be nice with a complete list of allies. I know Norwegians have been used tracking down Al Qaida. They have been lying in the snow for weeks giving targets to bomber planes. I'm sure Wiglaf's dog was there with them - marking places to bomb! And this dog did more work than all of the US allies!

Lots of nations sent forces to Afghanistan, though only a few sent forces for actual combat (USA, UK, France. perhaps Canada as well)
