Now that I think about that, it has some disturbing possible conclusions, such as, it would be easier for MtG to make all the decisions for us, etc.

A place(s) of worship for the theists would need to be decided upon democratically. I would argue that they be allowed to have a place, but I retract my earlier statement about giving in just because it's easier than letting a conflict break out.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

The shortage in the women department would sort itself out the way these things usually do . . . with increased homosexuality and a lot of ****ing off.

So would I - but in response to the original question, they would have to build their own chapel if they wanted one and lost the vote.

But we don't have to cater to their religious beliefs. they are free to have whatever religion they want, but that doesn't mean that they are necessarily entitled to have all of us build them a chapel, or even set aside a special space. We do have to give them time to pray, or it would be tantamount to prohibiting prayer.
Well, I wasn't saying that we'd all have to build it. I'm just saying are they allowed to 'skip' their other duties, the duties of the commune, to build a chapel (also, use resources that have been collected...or collect resources to build this chapel).

What if their religion requires prayer in a chapel?

See what you've made us done! We could have been building a chapel!
Hey, these things are going to happen!

And you should all read Tunnel in the Sky by Robert Heinlein.
Never heard of it, I'll look for it next time I'm in the library. What's it about?

a few hundred people get dumped in a medium-sized area on a non-Earth planet. It's about how they survive - they go from loaners to cave-dwellers, and eventually build a city. It's a lot like the situation described.

Yeah you are and a Mosque, and a temple...

Freedom's Landing by Anne McCaffery is somewhat similar too, but of course that is grossly unrealistic and reduces to the amusing-yet-ridiculous rather quickly.

One temple, that's it, and it's unidenominational. The Hindus, Jews, Moselms, and Christians, can orgainze it amonst themselves.

                        • My guess would be a civil war. Since everyone had just arrived at the same island, it'd be difficult to determine property rights, so there probably would be demand for Chegitz's democratic council. Of course, there also people used to letting Ming and MtG run the show, and so there would also be people who would want to maintain traditional authority. There would be a civil war between those who favored the democratic council and those who wnat Ming as supreme leader.

                              • Well, we just have to coopt Ming, and remind him of what happened to the Romanov's should he refuse.
