Indeed I have. I don't list them as a form of bragging, though. Sorry to disappoint.

The fact that you've been all over the world means nothing, to be blunt. It depends on the seasons, weather, etc. in other places, and I really doubt you spent any real amount of time in those places to get anywhere near the amount of Texas sunsets you've witnessed.

How come you've never been to Canada?
You're missing out on a whole lot, my bigoted Christian friend.

Quit arguing, all of you. Texas has things canada doesn't have, and vice versa. Although I'd choose Montana over either of those.

I know several people in Texas, and you two are the only ones that insist it's worth seeing as a tourist.

I asked one of my Texan friends just now about the sunsets, his response:
And actually...sunsets here suck most of the time.
Why? They blind you to hell when driving.
Since the land is flat in East Texas, there's nothing to block it.
        More so in West Texas.
        Then you have our summers...
During which people flop over dead on the sidewalks.
        Yay for heat strokes.
During the winters, we're all sneezing, coughing, and generally spreading diseases.
Fall lasts like a week. Spring is nice, though.

        ...

        I prefer pink sunsets.
And it's too damned hot in west Texas.
It's hot HERE during summer...there's no way I'd be caught in west Texas during summertime.
Also in west Texas...sandstorms. Those are not cool.

Nonsense, the only thing Texas has that Canada doesn't have is unbearable humidity and heat and an illegal immigrant problem.

Canada's got desert, plains, mountains, grasslands, hills, tundra, etc. Most diverse landscape this side of the Sun.

Mainly because there is nothing extraordinary about Canada. If I want beautiful mountains and valleys, I can go to colorado. Much closer and less expensive. If i'm going to spend money on a big trip, I go somewhere beautiful and FUN. Like Europe, or the Carribean. As for as listing travels as bragging, one could see it rather as correcting an incorrect presumption from a very presumptuous person, i.e. an attempt to correct ignorance, rather than bragging

as far as a good deal of time, I don't claim to have lived in any of those places, but i have spent a good deal of time in europe, mexico, the carribean, and many of the states.

Devilmunchkin, take my advice. It's not worth trying to argue with Asher, he's always like this...

I thought it'd be safe to read his posts in a non-technical thread. Nah.

Asher, there's a lot of area to Texas. Some of it isn't any fun to visit (quote found in an Ultima 7 easter-egg: "Looks like ****, could be west Texas"). Some of it is. Your "one driving trip" can hardly have encompassed even a fair amount of the state. So before you go on about "have you been to", try actually visiting.

I moved down here from an area in the Rocky Mountains. You want a plain city, go visit Denver. Austin (and the surrounding area) is quite nice. If you want some good indie music, check out the Austin club scene. Heck, we've even got an indie film scene going now. There's plenty to do around here for those willing to brave the daystar.

(Hey, if you're coming up in summer, maybe you can stop by A-Kon...)

                Hah.
There's nothing extraordinary about Canada? Okay, whatever, you're right. Texas is far more extraordinary for a transatlantic tourist.

You've never been here, don't even start bull****ting like that.

Until EITHER of you two, dm or Kaak, come to Canada and see it for yourself, I don't want to hear either of you say Texas is better.

                  He is gay, isn't he?

But you are right about one thing...Don't spend a whole lot of time in west texas, unless you have to. A lot of it is beautiful, but sandstorms do suck...But then again, Texas is a big place. Trying to generalize from one region is, again, a little presumptuous..

Coming from the man who puts people on the ignore list that disagree with him?

                    Grow up, IT lackey.

                    Texas has NOTHING special.
No one has proved otherwise. It may be a nice place, but it's nothing exceptional. Anyone want to argue that?

btw, the gay thing was a JOKE, not a presumption...

                            No, it doesn't count.

I spent two days in Texas. Too much time, if you ask me. Plus a time in the airport, which doesn't count.

El Paso, Austin, Panhandle Plains, and some other places I don't recall. Mostly because I was bored out of my mind...

Screw Denver. You want a nice place to visit in Colorado, you need to get up to the smaller mountain towns. I'd reccomend Vail and Winter Park, but those are really expensive sometimes. I'd go for places like Grand Lake or Granby. Same surroundings and views, not nearly as expensive.
