I think the only law I obeyed to get here was the law of fetal development.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

What makes you think they deserve to be here anymore than people who obeyed the law to get here?
They don't. Both groups deserve to be here equally.

That's nice. Completely irrelevant to my point, but nice.

        Ramo: They don't.

Good, we agree then. If you don't agree with a law you have three choices:

        1) Obey it.
        2) Violate it and hope no one notices but be willing to pay the consequences if someone actually does notice.
        3) Try and change it.

Illegal immigrants by and large fall into category #2.

        paiktis22: Nice how?

        Wouldn't you like to know?

            Relax Dinodoc

Really is this the first time there is a "sweep operation" (as is called in Greece ) in the US?

Meaning gathering up illegal immigrants and sending them back to their countries of origin?

            That's what I gathered.

I mean hell, if you're gonna throw people out of the country, why not throw out the H1-B tech immigrants so we computer workers can get more money from lowered competition. . . . Oh, right, this is about f*cking over poor people.
LOL! You know, I wouldn't worry too much about this, Che. They'll get rid of the Paki's, but once there is an Hispanic maid shortage in Arlington Heights, the law will stop being pushed so hard:

"Honey, we can't afford $1,000 a month for daily maid service. We need Rosarita back and we need her now! Why'd you vote for that stupid law, anyway?"

                What's your point?

So they deserve to be detained indefinitely by the state simply because they disobeyed an irrational, totalitarian law. Should the same have applied to Hitler's untermenschen?

                  they should be found

those who are criminial should be treated as such

those that aren't should be allowed to do the immegration process legally (maybe after a fine)

The answer to your question is that the immigrants that obeyed the law to get here deserve to stay. Those that didn't obey the law to get here don't. Is that enough of an answer?

                    What's your point?
That they disobeyed a very reasonable law and should not be suprised when they have to pay the piper, so to speak.

It doesn't help that they don't have millions to drag out the cases in court for years, either.

I don't know why the FBI doesn't go after bigger criminals first.

                        they should be found

those who are criminial should be treated as such
The first group that the INS is arresting consists of felons who have already served their time. And the INS is using "criminality" (not restricted to felonies - could be nothing more than jay-walking) as nothing more than an excuse to detain the rest.

                        (maybe after a fine)
                        Why?

The answer to your question is that the immigrants that obeyed the law to get here deserve to stay. Those that didn't obey the law to get here don't. Is that enough of an answer?
No, but that wasn't my question anyways, it was the converse of yours. Again, what makes you believe you deserve to be here any more than "illegal" immigrants do?

That they disobeyed a very reasonable law
Why is it reasonable? It is neither economically efficient, nor humane.

and should not be suprised when they have to pay the piper, so to speak
If you had to choose between insuring your family has enough to eat and obeying immigration regulations, would you still be a good drone of the state?

They deserve to be deported/detained by the state becuase the disobeyed a law that is neither irrational
Again, inhibiting the free movement of peoples is both morally and economically unsound.

                        [uote]nor totalitarian.[/quote]

The state tells you where you can or cannot go. That sounds fairly totalitarian to me.

I haven't overstayed my visa, Ramo.

                          Why is it reasonable?
A State has the right to control its borders which includes setting requirements on immigration which can be as free or as closed as it chooses.

Everything the State does sounds fairly totalitarian to you, Ramo. I'll be serious now. Let's use Caligasta as an example. What is totalitarian about the procedures that he has gone through? Note: Overly beaurocratic is different from totalitarian.

Interesting non-sequitur, but you still haven't answered my question.

A State has the right to control its borders
Why? From where do these rights come from?

Everything the State does sounds fairly totalitarian to you, Ramo.
                            Fair enough.

I'll be serious now. Let's use Caligasta as an example. What is totalitarian about the procedures that he has gone through? Note: Overly beaurocratic is different from totalitarian.
Well, there isn't exactly a huge amount of people trying to leave New Zealand to go to the US, and presumably, Cali has decent eduction. How easy do you think it would be to become a legal resident for a poor Mexican?

A fine because they did do something illegal and that should be discouraged

I am pro immegration because it is smart, not because it is 'right'

if they do crimes in the US and have not immegrated here, then I see no reason to not kick them out
