Sheesh, how much does property cost in Bristol Seneca?

Well, I must be honest and admit that I could get somewhere bigger in a crime-ridden craphole, but a decent flat in the centre will go for 100,000.

But the housing market is skewed right now - it will collapse, oh yes it will...

Following the logic of the wise saver, perhaps you should consider living somewhere outside Bristol, a nearby town or village with good transport links.

That's not too bad Seneca, I've seen a lot worse...

But this isn't meant to be a whinging thread about me - I'm comfortable and happy.

It's a thread about wealth - now, why does David Beckham care what he gets paid if he moves to Inter Milan? Surely he has so much already it's irrelevant to him if he gets a fiver per match?

Oh absolutely. And he should give me a few million of his money. Him and his missus between them must have an absolute fortune. But the question is, which one of them is the richer?

I know enough to know many of you Brits often pay through the nose to live within walking distance of your workplace whereas people in the States and Australia would think nothing of commuting up to an hour to the office.

Yeah AH, but you are missing a point; the price of petrol and transportation in this country as well.

Although even within London people can be commuting for hours a day and the property is still extortionate. I wouldn't take a job down there, it is too much like a rat race.

Cost of transportation, my arse. Most Australian families run at least 2 cars.

Same here, but how much does your fuel, insurance, tax, etc, cost?

By Western world standards its high because of tax and other wealth incentives to buy your own home. Australia has one of the highest home ownership rates but it is dropping because of price rises. Almost everyone wants to become a "quarter acre peasant".

Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world. The way most Australians build wealth is through home ownership. They pay off one and move up to another. I'm in my second home now and almost ready to sell it and buy the third.

I've lived in the same house my ENTIRE life, and I'm so happy I did! I would hate moving around all over the place... Very disruptive for a child. Beautiful old colonial house. What a great place for a childhood.
