But its what comes after he steps down that counts. A better leader who really works for peace? Or another bloodthirsty bastard?
A proud citizen of the only convicted terrorist harboring nation!

According to the Isrealis I've talked to, such leaders do actually exist: Jibril Rajoub, Muhhamad Dahlan, along with most of the "second generation" of the PA leadership.

Let's just hope the moderates can win out and we can truly get, if not dialogue, then at least indifference between the two parties.
        I refute it thus!

I feel quite sure that Arafat is not going to resign. It would be totally out of character, in fact, it would be meaningless - this is the symbol of Palestine, the man who ties his Keffiyeh in the shape of Palestine, the man who says "I am married to the Palestinian people." For him to reason is a meaningless concept, especially since his people do live in the Arab world - none of the other leaders of his generation (or the next one) have resigned from power peacefully.

IMHO, that's a peacenik fantasy. Mohammed Dahlan and Jibril Rajoub are heads of PA security in Gaza and the West Bank respectively; IIRC, Dahlan has had some disagreements with Arafat and has also been involved in the production of mortar shells. Jibril Rajoub was responsible for the kanagaroo courts which rounded up "collaborators" as a propaganda stunt. Marwan Barghouthi, head of Fatah in the West Bank, is more exreme than Arafat. The one genuinely good guy who is talked of as a contender is Sari Nusseibeh, Islamic philosopher and negotiator from East Jerusalem - but I don't think he'll ever get a chance.

Like everything else in Israel, it's complicated. But the idea of a peaceful new generation of Palestinian leaders isn't wrong because the wrong people espouse it, it's wrong because it's incorrect.

It's not my job. Ask one of those people who freely flings the terms "terrorism" and "terrorist" around.

                      Perhaps Dubya.

It's not your job to substantiate your own claims? How do you figure that?

What's my claim? You weren't asking me to substantiate my "claim," whatever it is. You were merely trying to play a game in semantics.

Do you have somesort of short term memory problem, Urban? Does this statement look at all familiar to you: He's no more a terrorist than Ariel Sharon.? I was curious about your definition of the term so I could find out if your claim was at all grounded in reality. If you consider, critical examinations of your BAs to be a game in semantics so be it.

So you are saying that there is a material distinction between what Ariel Sharon (and other Israeli hardliners) are/were doing and what the Pals are/were doing?

If so, I reckon you're the one who has to provide such distinctions.
