Crap. Pearson comes to mind, as does Trudeau. Maybe I should add in Louis St-Laurent. Can't think of another two I think did a good job. Mackenzie King had a chance to be our FDR, but he had no comprehension of how to deal with the Depression, which probably hit us worse than any other country in the world.

What country to you live in?
England. Some countries have more than 400 years of history.

KH, Eadred was an early rular of England. A crap one too, from what I can remember (well that was Laz's point, I figure).

An Anglo-Saxon ruler. A lot of them have really trippy [not-very-German-sounding] names, like Egbert.

I'm a bit curious why you picked Polk. I know what he's noted for (Mexican War and surrounding events) but he's not usually put on "Top 10" lists.
Simple. Came in, said what he was going to do, did it, and then stepped down. I have a lot of respect for that.
And he did more than just the Mexican War!

One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.
I think there were 4 issues and a sort of promise that he'd only run for one term.
1) 54'40 or fight (Oregon territory)
2) Texas
3) something with the tarriff I believe...
4) California (got more than he bargained for after winning the war)
5) not running for reelection (even though apparently he had an extremely high chance at reelection.) Died soon after I believe...1849 maybe

Yeah, I can´t believe that you had not mentioned him. The "Ostverträge" were the most important improvement in the relations between the two German states...
And for me Kohl had only luck that he was chancelor in 1989
Ok, he played a great role in the re-unification, also in the European unification process, but after 16 years, he "leaded" Germany into politic and economic stagnation...

Last time I checked, the border was at the 49th for that entire section. 54'40 puts you up north of Winnipeg. I'd say he missed that one by 500 km or so.

I stand by my definition of East and West Germans. In the West, you don't see gangs of Neo-Nazis patrolling inner-cities and bent on beating up anyone who don't look like Germans...
That is completely untrue. It is right that there are more Neo Nazis in some eastern regions than in some western regions. However, the worst racist crimes in the past decades were done in the western part of Germany, simply search for "Mölln" and "Solingen"...
Believe it or not, the Neo Nazi thing is a problem for the entire country. It may also interest you the most leaders of political active Neo Nazi groups/parties are from western Germany...

Hmmm...
Other than Alfred I hadn't heard of any befor Ethelred. My knowledge of British history between Roman Britain and 1066 is sort of sketchy, though.
