Funny, that. I thought this was a bickering and moaning thread, given the "content" of the first post, and all proceeding posts made by you and Cali. Or is it only acceptable if I bicker and moan about childish left-wingers and slutty girls who won't give you the time of day?

The biggest paradigm shift from left to right most likely comes as a byproduct of marriage and children, rather than any brilliant insight into political ideology.

Prior to marriage you are looking for that lifelong sexual partner and hence have little use for the 'sage' advice of conservatives - folks who used to be just like you, but who have themselves progressed farther along in the family progression outlined below - who want to marry you off to the ideal soul mate that they have selected for you.

After marriage, but prior to parenthood, the possibility of dual incomes [at least in America] provides the freedom necessary to allow one to 'blow off' a job here and there, should there be a problem with bosses and/or coworkers.

After marriage and children, all freedoms pale in importance to providing for one's family. No longer can you mouth off to the idiot boss. In fact if you want to put you kids in college you will have to go out of your way to attempt to please your boss[es].

The growth of your family's income stream becomes paramount and this stage marks the point of maximum conservatism for most people as they age.

I never heard of someone becoming more liberal as they got older, it always seems to be the other way around. Is this because a lot of left-wing/liberal ideas are naive and childish?

You have heard of another one. The more of the cold hard reality of life that I see the more I desire an idealistic, fair society. I get more and more sick of the selfish, greedy right wing ideas every day.

          Just become a Libertarian:

You'll be "left-wing" about some issues and "right-wing" about others.

I agree with KrazyHorse. Come on Stew, you know the issues I am concerned about go further than just 'student grants' considering I am not a student like that any more anyway, I get a grant paid for by research councils and private industry. So why am I still on the left side of politics? He's right, you are getting like some of the 'trendy rightists' on here, which is enough to turn my stomach...

Or even better, independent. I myself vow allegiance to no group. Never will.

Why? Because I don't feel any political group is always right or will always be right. Until there is a day that a party has no flaws (never), I will always be independent.

drake: What about Pony & Ice Cream Party?

It's agenda consists of that, after winning an election, they'll send every citizen a pony and some ice cream.

I mean, who could oppose ponies and ice cream?

Therefore, this party is flawless, ergo, you should vote for it.

                        I think that:

-Everybody is equal before the law, and everybody has the same rights
-You are allowed to do whatever you want as long as it doesn't impinge on me, and the gov. does not have to protect you from yourself
-The government does not have to equalize all people. People with merit will do better than those without.

                        BUT I also think that:

-Socialized health care and education are good
-The rich should pay more taxes than the poor because we all are responsible to our society as a whole, and the rich have a larger ability to contribute.

So, am I left or right? For Canada, I'm right. In the US, I would vote Democrat because I don't like the Libertarian or Republican parties.
                        I refute it thus!

                          Hear hear the independants!!

The whole notion of 'right' or 'left' is just a political invention designed to put people into groups in order to simplify issues for ignorant people.

                          I am a Pragmatic Centrist.

LOL ask I 'rightist' or 'leftist' how one defines right and left wing....they both start talking at the same time...

LEFTY: The left wing movement is about the securing of rights!

RIGHTY: The right wing movement is about the securing of rights!

LEFTY: The right-wing movement is about certain elite interests in society trampling on our rights!

RIGHTY: The left wing movement is about certain elite interests trampling on our rights!

There is not one ideology that is right, and another that is wrong, they are both full of ****.

There is only good policy, and bad policy, sound management, and poor management. That's why I voted Liberal here in Canada.
