My preference would probably be Calvin Coolidge, simply because he didn't do much - and I love is quote: "The business of America is business."

However, from the list above, I would probably have to go with Thomas Jefferson. A good Southerner

Ah, FDR, the man credited with ending the Depression and beating the Nazis and Japanese.

I'm not a big fan, personally - considering he violated the Constitution at every turn, abused his power, and got us into a war where 430,000 Americans died.

          Harrison.

The only good President is a dead President.

Sp you'd rather save 430000 Americans than have a free, nonNazi Europe and thus saving at least another 12 million innocent civilians?

                Floyd: AHAHAHAHAH!

FDR got us into a war? Read your history books. The Japanese got us into a war. If FDR hadn't proposed to Congress, the American citizens would've had his head. 430,000 Americans is, I think, a fair price to pay, considering everything else. And yes, I would volunteer to be one of those 430,000 if it meant freedom.

BTW, my pick was Bill Clinton.

                  Jimmy Carter. An honest man.

Yes, I'd be willing to save 430,000 innocent Americans over 12 million foreign civilians.

As to the FDR thing, there's already a lot of discussion going on over who got us into what, WW2-wise, in a couple other threads on here...suffice it to say he greatly provoked both Germany and Japan.

I'd agree, MBloom, that Jimmy Carter was a decent one in that he was honest - disagree with everything he did, pretty much, but he's a good, moral, and honest man, so he gets points in my book. Definitely NOT a sleazeball politician

                    And Ramo,

I might've too...unfortunately, many of those 430,000 were NOT volunteers

Indeed. Reagan WAS a great statesman. Used to be my favorite to before I became Libertarian.

Too bad he didn't like Congress very much

Washington, I guess, because he turned down the chance to be king. (By contrast, several recent ones have acted as if they were kings.) Coolidge would be my choice for best of the 20th century, for the reasons David gave.
"THE" plus "IRS" makes "THEIRS". Coincidence? I think not.

Reagan. FDR was okay, very liberal but won the war and increased our military hugely
