Listen, would you please go away? You're on MY side, but you're arguing HORRIBLY, and you're making my side look bad. At least READ what people write. It seems you didn't even read what I wrote.
Now you see what fun I had with the "agree but disrespect thread"?

not being in the military, i can't exactly say for sure, but as long as it's not paraded, i don't see how it's that big of an issue, or a problem.

if it's kept under wraps, who cares? if they fight just as well as a straight person, might as well use them in combat.

Lets have them openly admit they are gay so they can have the sh!t beat out of them and then be court martialed for starting the fight
I don't want my taxdollars paying the livilihoods of a$$holes who start fights over such nonsense and then lie about it. As for "don't ask, don't tell", everyone who joins the military gives up freedoms as part of the contract, but Connor makes a good point - the standard should be applied equally. If homosexuals can't identify themselves as homosexual, then straights should not be allowed to identify themselves as straight. And since we know we aren't going to kick people out for saying they are straight, then that should be the standard for homosexuals.

Well, I personally don't agree with the kinds of things that gay men and women do, but I just keep my nose out of it. Besides, it's none of my business what they do anyway.

The military should allow gays because in the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

I had to vote 'Yes' on this poll.

There's absolutely no reason why gays and bis should be prevented from joining the military, or should have to keep their sexual preferances secret.

As pointed out earlier, "don't ask, don't tell" is not only supremely hypocritical, but an assault on our military's morale.

Somebody has to put this in a sig. This is classic.

Its interesting that Conner is actually the only person who is in the military that is for it. The others that are for it, would probably rather see the military as a whole discredited.

My opinion having been in. I think my morale would be affected by knowing about someone being in that was gay. I'm a traditionalist, sorry. I just have problems with the lifestyle as a whole. Usually when someone says I have to accept it. But I wouldn't go arguing about how gays homosexuals fight any less then straights. Sparta anyone?

Anyway my opinion has been pretty much shaped by my own personal predjucies. And I'm fine with that. I won't protest if the policy is changed and I won't do anything to help it get changed.

Man, if I was fighting against an all-gay regiment I'd be frightened out of my mind. What if they take me prisoner?

Instead of taking that chance, I'd run away (backwards).

                        I'm a don't ask don't tell supporter

I feel Clinton did the right thing here (am I correct Clinton came up with this?). If he pushed too hard, there would be serious backlash.

As evidenced by racial problems in the U.S. a slower approach is more effective against stubborn americans.

eventually I'd like to not see people kicked out if they are found out. But obviously they would have problems at the command they are at, so a transfer would be in order. And hopefully the high ranking NCO's and officers would keep that secret to the new command. Although this could pose problems because people at various commands know each other. Maybe we can change their name like those mob informants

Eventually when people are accepting enough, the personell can remain at their present command if they are found out.

                          Absolutely NOT!

The military is a terrible place for gays and bi's to be. You can get killed!

For that matter, heterosexuals shouldn't be allowed in the military either!

                            Everyone:

A soldier is a soldier to me, regardless of other "identifiers." They're sworn to protect the United States and its citizens and that's what counts in the end. Not their sexuallity. Not their skin color. Not their sex.

                              I definetly agree with cyber.

Military is for defense of the United States. We preach equality and diversity, but we don't allow diversity in our military? Seems a bit hypocritical.

Everyone who is able and willing to serve, should be able to serve, in any aspect of the military they are qualified for. If women want to be infantry and go to the front lines? Fine with me if they are physically able. That should be their choice to make, not mine.

Being gay or straight doesnt make someone more or less of a soldier and it's absurd to think otherwise. Gays aren't necessarily sissy little twinks like that homo on will and grace. They're just guys. Physically the same as the straight population. Some are fat, some are tall, some are muscular, some are weaklings. Just like straight men.

Sure, theres still a lot of pinhead machismo crap going on with some of the military men, but this isn't the ww2 era anymore. I think the military is ready for a little more responsibility......

Yes gays and bis should be allowed but at the same time I do support the "Don't ask" part of the current policy. I don't think its anyone's business as to a person's sexuality so the question should never be asked.

As for the "Don't tell" part, I always thought this was a stupid concept. People should be free to share important parts of their lives with friends and acquaintances. If that means that a military guy mentions/states his orientation, there should be no official repercussions. If some idiot can't get past their bigotry perhaps the bigot has no place in the service.

I agree with the poster who says that most people don't care what a person's sexual orientation is. If a person does there job, who cares who they choose to sleep with? I have many gay griends that only want to live their lives, do their jobs, love freely whom they choose and simply go about their business without discrimination. I only wish I could forsee a world where this is completely possible

I confess I do sometimes get annoyed with people who wear their orientation as a badge in EVERYTHING they do ( and no I am not criticizing a normal show of affection like two men holding hands or whatever) it just people like this one acquaintance of mine-- for him, EVERYTHING that happens is about him being gay-- whenever he meets people his gayness is the first topic (and usually manages to be a theme whenever he speaks) and when he didn't get a job that he interviewed for . . .well of course it was discrimination (the fact that the successful applicant had 5 more years experience was lost on him)-- I will say this . . . after a while around such a person you get bored with them and choose to focus your attention and concern on cases of REAL discrimination ( and there are far too many of them). However thats probably more about the fact that he is a bore that that he is gay.
