True! DosEmu running under X has crashed under me on Linux many times, and it has wenched the keyboard so that I have had to reboot. Now I have compiled the kernel with a magical SysRq key, but because of problems with gpm I haven't yet got X to be usable again (to make a long story short: I repartitioned my HD for W ME, deleted the partition housing /var in error and had to do a reinstall of Linux... And, of course, ME didn't even understand my graphics adapter

XWindows crashes far more often than Windows 2000 does. And, when it comes down to it, having the GUI crash is just as bad as the whole OS crashing for the vast majority of users.

I agree that MS' business practices need a major overhaul.
What they didn't count was usability, software base, and prettyness (yes, that's a major component for people).
