Reading these threads, I sometimes feel like a Microsoft zealot who uses Linux ...

To prevent confusion: All quotes in this post by Asher.

XWindows crashes far more often than Windows 2000 does. And, when it comes down to it, having the GUI crash is just as bad as the whole OS crashing for the vast majority of users.
True! DosEmu running under X has crashed under me on Linux many times, and it has wenched the keyboard so that I have had to reboot. Now I have compiled the kernel with a magical SysRq key, but because of problems with gpm I haven't yet got X to be usable again (to make a long story short: I repartitioned my HD for W ME, deleted the partition housing /var in error and had to do a reinstall of Linux... And, of course, ME didn't even understand my graphics adapter )...

I agree that MS' business practices need a major overhaul.
Hear hear, Urban! Asher might just be a bit more agreeable than you think...

What they didn't count was usability, software base, and prettyness (yes, that's a major component for people).
... and that's what most of us Linux users can't understand.

It's good to know some things can't change. You say I'm the apologist when you always directly reply to my statements with excuses and/or semantics.

      Wake up.

Asher, when did you start considering usability and prettyness as important components of an OS? If you really value usability and aesthetics, you wouldn't ridicule the Mac OS the way you do...

MacOS is good for people who think the computer has little people inside it happily working away and thinking.
I commend you on your consumate trolling ability.

I like Mac OS X. I've said it before.
I wouldn't use it, but it's still a good OS.
It's FAR better for most users than Linux is.

Deep down, you know it's true.

              Hey, it's based on BSD.
              BSD is my favorite Unix.

And it IS easy to use. Much too easy, for my tastes, but it is very easy to use.

It's amazing all of the logical things I say when people get it through their head that I'm not a MS apologist or zealot.
I just tend to defend MS products like Win2K/XP and IE, because they're just great.

Here's where we differ. I don't know if I could ever fault an OS for being too easy to use.

Picture this: You try to delete a file. The OS tells you "Nope, can't do that, you MAY hurt yourself doing so.".
You want to browse the internet: You launch a browser, and a big help window appears detailing how to surf the internet and recommends sites to go to, etc.

                    Doesn't XP already do this?

Seriously though, such a (hypothetical) OS would be bad. But the Mac is nothing like that.

Yes, the first time you go online it does.
And it also stops you from deleting certain files by default.

It pisses me off, so I had them both disabled.

XP is also much too easy for my personal tastes, but with enough tweaking it is usable by such a power user.

I'm sure the same can be done for OS X, but I don't really care about it because I'd rather not lock myself into Apple's hardware.

Well, I'm astonished. Why aren't you this reasonable most of the time? Maybe if you trolled a little less (ie Mac users sitting at the kiddie table...) people wouldn't hate you so much. My impression of you has certainly changed. Of course, you could always say something that would change my mind again...

The "kiddie table" remark was a harmless joke, I know it sets off the Mac users.

I troll sometimes depending on my mood. So sue me.

I have no idea who Urban Ranger is, I haven't been on these forums for that long. I tend to get along with most people, so finding a new nemesis is going to be hard. Maybe I should just get real drunk and forget this even happened...
