How many guesses do I get?

      First I would guess Ming . . .

      And if it's not him I would have to guess . . . Alexander's Horse . . . ?

        I.E. - How new is a newbie?

        hehe, thanx!
You're not. I don't have an exact definition. But people who don't even understand what newbie refers to fit there.

Pretty much people here in the last month or 2. (normally there would be a longer break-in period, but there's nothing like a newer newbie to make an old newbie look like a vet.)

People who complain loudly about newbies are probably here more for social substitute. Otherwise they would not be so emotional.

More people does mean more redundant, FAQ type posts. It is really not that hard to avoid those and find the good info.

But the chance to bash ppl and claim some kind of "superiority" due to lots of posts ... that is gold to someone needing a social substitute.
You don't need to kiss anybody's ass cause they've been here longer. But if your attitude is "**** it, I don't care if it bothers people when I post the exact same topic as is already on page 1" (as currently the case) than you are rude and should expect to get **** on.

seems to me we have had a mad rush of new people to the site, doesnt mean they new to civ so we shouldnt treat them as such, lets all show respect and let them fill this worthless area with their posts, I mean till Civ 3 MP is released who cares!!

Well, I'm not really sure what is going on with this board. I've found some useful information, and I've bumped into some incredible stupidity. If someone decides not to reply to something posted by a "newbie" on the grounds of him/her being a new to "their" board, then this board would be pretty much worthless. I haven't really seen MUCH of that yet, and hopefully what I have seen of that behavior limited to a bunch of dorks who get some sort of gratification from having spent more time than anyone else on a message board. For my fellow newbies, if you do run into this silly situation, just remember that while the cat who is pulling rank on you may feel good for snubbing you, IRL you have been dating, working, and having social interactions not limited to words on a screen, free porn sites, a jar of hand lotion, and a pile of "used" kleenex.

(disclaimer: MOST of the above post was intended to amuse. If you were offended, feel misrepresented, or are angry because it was a "bit too close to home", please accept my apologies.)

Then why is everyone shown as joining in 1969? AH is listed as 1969 . . . so are you . . .

                    Yes, I know that's a newbie question , but hey!, ya gotta learn somewhere . . .

                    I didn't think they even had internet in 1969 . . . . . .

P.S. I am only 19 years old so needless to say I was not around at that time to see what was going on . . .

Before feb 15, 1999, apolyton had no script to keep track of when you registered. on feb 15 99, that script was added to apolyton. while we still used UBB, anyone from before that's registration date was listed as b. 2-15-99. then, when we switched to vbb, mark and dan never added that b. 2-15-99 line to the script, so those who registered before that date are listed as having what presumably is the default date for the vbb forums. it's listed as either dec 31st 1969 or jan 1st 1970, depending on which time zone that you live in/have chosen to display under your preferences.

                      hope that helps

Bah, let them come. Newbies are cosy

And you should come to the OT, and annoy the hell out of everyone by making "Hello I'm new" threads and asking about what a DL is

Newbies can be awful and cause such a mess. But they're the ones who ask all the questions that cause lauhgter among the rest of the community. They're like buskers of ACS. Entertainment for the veterans.

But I can understand Alex and his horse that newbies can be anoying too.

                                Newbs

Having all these new guys around just means that were growing. (a good thing) And I think that stupid questions don't exist, just people who make stupid judgmental statements. (wait, I just may have made one) Any ways, some of the dumbest stuff I've read is from the veteran spamers "LOOK AT ME I'M AN EMPEROR!" who follow Stalin's ideal "Quantity has a quality all it's own"

                                P.S. hehehe, Flame away boys
