"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency

If you haven't been around for at least 6 months on this forum and you aren't a King rank then you are not even a person let alone a non-newbie. That means I have just a few more days before I can shake off that newbie title and finally become a human, yeah.
However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.
Hey, I think many of the newbies flooding this forum are missing Horse's very important point here - that there is an enourmous amount of useful info, strats, helps, stories, cheats and the like, each on their respective boards. When you start new threads on topics already under discussion in an on-going thread, you wind up pushing the good, solid information posted by the 'authorities' (i.e. the "Old Timers") to the back pages- making the search for the best, most reliable info much more difficult.
Cybershy- I never even thought about the DL connection, but on further reflection HAH! That certainly would explain 80-90% of 'em! (I'm clearly a newbie by my post stats and login date, but hell, it seems to be pretty difficult to do this by accident IMHO). - Now watch me dbl post this time
GP is so correct to say that for all of the people who are new to these boards - not necessarily those new to civ - should seriously see how far the State of the Art in Civin' has come - go and check the CivII Strategy board! Seriously DO IT Now!DO IT Now!
The most important element in gleaning the 'right' info is to familiarize yourself with the source. Go to the CivII and SMAC boards and decide for yourself who the 'genuine' sources are (many of them are still on the boards, and haven't yet switched over to III yet). Information is generally only as good as its source.
I really should qualify my own statements (at least based on the above). Until I came here about two years ago, I played CivII at Prince with success, after I found this excellent source of information (IMO overall the best source by far), I now play with great success at Deity, though I have yet to master OCC - I like to play a more traditional 'loosely' Perfectionist strategy
Also, it should be noted that I am waiting to get CivIII until it is patched-especially the editor, mostly because I'll have to upgrade my old monitor to fully enjoy the new incarnation, and I am terribly jealous of all of you who already have it in their grubby little paws
Peace and Respect to all you old timers- and some love to the newbies.
What would you do with a drunken pirate, ehh mateeee?
Hi, my name is Brian, I'm a 14 year old from Kansas and I'd like to say hello. I have been watching over these forums for a long time just seeing what people have to say. I haven't really found too much out about civilization 3 as I had hoped. Instead I see a lot of people whining about minor things that they personally don't like or problems that make the game imperfect.
The irony is freakin' hilarious.
"You don't have to be modest if you know you're right."- L. Rigdon
oh brother, is this how all elites react? And just because your elite in the forum doesnt mean your an elite gamer.
OO! Take that! LOL
By the way, I've played every civ game (even fantastic worlds "chuckle") and I love civ3, sure it has some minor errors which a patch can address so stop all your whining. If you dont like the game I suggest you get more experience with an easier, less challenging strategy game and come back to civ3 when your mature enough to be challenged by a great game.
And yes I am a newbie to this forum!

Hey! New members! Visit the Off-Topic Forum. Don't forget to start a "Hi! I'm new" thread so we can welcome you properly. Ignore the jerks here. We're much friendlier in the OT.

I hope this remark is meant ironically.
In my opinion, the hey-day of the CivIII Forums were the first months of 2000 when Korn469 and Raingoon were directing the composition of the EC3 WishList and Yin26 was still the moderator of this Forum. Discussion was both intelligent and generally polite. Posters were usually friendly and supportive and generally only posted when they had something usefull to contribute.
I only sporadically visited the Off-Topic Forum because of its constant quarrelling and rather superficial contents. And the only thread I started there was removed within 5 minutes without explanation why! I am still angry about it, because I do rarely ever start a new thread, a practise that many should follow.
I know this positive atmosphere will never return here. Perhaps a CivIV Forum should be opened to give the intelligent exchange of ideas some opportunity again.
I want to thank Korn469, Raingoon, Yin26 -besides many others- for the good days. They made this Forum!

Yeah..pre-boards tend to be like that. The ultra-early Firaxis boards (when they were branching threads) were like that.
Give the OT a chance. We grow on you. Pick your threads...and you will find some cool people to talk to. Oh and the lost thread thing...please don't be sensative about it. There's a lot of carnage and maybe a little more force displayed over there. Think of it as a sign of your manhood to get a thread booted every now and then...
