  • Best Live Album Ever?

    What's yours?

Led Zeppelin's How The West Was Won set is impressive, but there is only one live album that whips it.

    The Who Live At Leeds

I've just acquired my fourth (I think) copy: The Deluxe Extended Edition.

What is wrong with other bands? No one can seem to do it the way The Who do it.

    So what's yours?

    My #1

    Phish: A Live One

A 40 minute version of "Tweezer"

"Wilson", one of the best songs to be performed with a crowd that knows their band... "Oh, Wilson!" ala Dennis the Menace

"You Enjoy Myself", around minute 20 they stop playing their instruments and just start making strange sounds... really kewl

Break yourself in with the album "Billy Breathes" or "Picture of Nectar"

They are a jam band, and I had more fun at their concerts than any other I went to. They normally lasted all day, and they would play forever.

                  Kiss "ALIVE"

                  Deep Purple "Nobody's Perfect"

                  Queen "Live at Wembley"

are the 3 best in my own album collection. But there are 1000's of good ones to choose from, most of which I never heard.

EDIT: And oh, how could I forget Dire Strait's "On the Night"?

For live DVDs, I recommend Santana's "Supernatural" and Rammstein's "Live aus Berlin"

Dave Matthews has a lot of good live albums

Most bands these days actually suck, so they don't do live albums

No, I have it on vinyl (now it's on my 'pooter as well), I bought it secondhand when I was 14 (for £3.50 IIRC), twenty years ago . I was a bit of a Mod in those days.....

Man - get the Deluxe edition. 2CDs with extra songs (which were on the 1995 extended edition) plus a complete live performance of "Tommy".

It sounds incredible too - they've cleaned it up.

And yes, I still have the LP.

Woodstock! (though I don't actually have the CD's, just the movie DVD)
Apart from that, the only live albums I have are from Queen.
Civilization II: maps, guides, links, scenarios, patches and utilities (+ Civ2Tech and CivEngineer)

Five Iron Frenzy - The End is Here

Of course, I like it more because I was at that show, but it's a great album on its own.
