          The sensible ones do!

I hate the inbred b@stards and I still have to pay taxes for their upkeep

The thing that makes my blood boil is when foreigners try to you how great the British royal family is, I just feel like screaming "You pay for the f$%kers then!"

          ..and relax.....

I mean they go visit a country with all those castles, pubs, bookstores, museums, quant villages, (not to mention Harry Potter related sites) etc, etc and they wait in line for a glimpse of an elderly civil servant?

Wow. I'm so glad I wasn't born into a royal family. I'm sure the press would have a field day with me. People/society takes themselves too seriously -- all that PC crap et al.

Yeah, it must be a drag, a real hell in fact, having to deal with all those millions, meeting interesting people and all...

I feel sorry for William (a little), as it is quite clear he doesn't want to be king and would rather live a normal life, but he has an enitre family and an entire government, not to mention a sizable portion of the British public, pressuring him otherwise. I would love to see him just outright refuse.

Much like our republicans have as well The Aussie ones may well have a better chance of getting what they want though as opinion seems to be slowly swinging more towards the monarchy these days. Still, the press jump on any chance they get to bring the debate back, and it would only take an inkling of monarchy interference to swing opinion the other way.

If that's something that somebody doesn't want to do, but they are forced into doing it, it could very well be hell for them. It certainly seemed to be hellish for Diana.

What?! She loved it, she courted the press but on the odd days she didn't fancy it she thought she could just turn it off, it doesn't work like that.

The latest excerpts from her letters indicate that she was miserable most of the time. Unlike William, her lot was more self-given, since she chose to marry Charles, true. But she had a lot of wrong ideas about what that would entail.

I can sympathize with not want to followed about around by photogs, et al. (though Im not sure Di didnt court that sort of thing) But I would expect ANYONE to have good sense about dressing up as a Nazi - I mean thats not too demanding.

In any case I dont think the Scandinavian monarchs are hounded like the UK royals. Perhaps cause they havent spent several decades pursuing the press? With gross extravaganzas like Charles and Di's wedding? Perhaps cause they arent trying to justify a civil list on the scale of the UK royals.

If I was a UKian I dont know as id be a Republican, but id damned sure want to cut the royals down to something more modest.
