Anyone have any reputable links where I can view Tsunami footage?
    Wait, a million deaths?

This is probably with counting the people that will die of cholera and typhus in the months to come
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
      Once again...

My father's cousin lives in Banda Aceh. She and her family are fine, but their house is gone. Well, you've seen the satellite photos - there's nothing left of Banda Aceh! They're probably gonna move back to Padang.

I read in the Herald Sun that they think the day might be shorter by three microseconds as a result of the earthquake. Did anybody else hear that?

Uh-uh, there was a mention of it in the old thread. The Earth's axis is supposed to be wobbling a bit too, but these figures can't be actually measured, scientists have calculated them.

Good to hear your relatives are fine. Speaking of Banda Aceh, here's a comparative .pdf with satellite images from the area: http://www.digitalglobe.com/images/t...ami_Damage.pdf
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Just imagine how many more water generating ships we'd have if we'd built Reagan's 600 ship navy

People are resiliant. But you've got to remember that there is little to no medical aid in some regions. Also, millions that are homeless are grouped in small shelters. This plus all the sewage are perfect conditions for epidemics.

Don't forget, something we take for granted like the flu killed 25 million in 1918.

I understand aid is pouring in large quantities. I saw on the News the Red Cross got over $20 mil in donations, on the BBC news I saw the British public is donating greatly as well.

                      This is awful.

I don't think one million people will die. But it's far better that we're overprepared than underprepared. The only things they probably really need right now are safe water, safe food, shelter, and help finding and burying the dead, but eventually we'll see greater impact--a million people displaced, entire local societies destroyed, the introduction of total poverty to an already impoverished environment, plus any epidemics that hopefully won't rage out of control.

                      Terrible.

They need clean water more than anything else now.

Fortunately, those places don't get cold. The only bad thing about nice, warm climate is dead bodies go bad fast.

water is #1, peopel can go a week or two without food. Clean water must come now. And in a few days hopefully they will be organized enough for food drops.

This already has surpassed the number dead in any Tsunami in recorded history...

The eruption of the Nicobar volcano, if it hasn't been going on for a while, may have been triggered by the weight of the water on the mountain.

makes you wonder why these types of disasters seem to happen in those parts of the world. Why is it North America has escaped all these disasters? And don't give me hurricanes. Hurricanes don't do ****. Same with tornados.

We are lucky in a way because so much of that ring of fire is on land. It seems after this, land earthquakes are much safer than one's out at sea. Imagine if the plates were a few miles off the coast of California instead under the land part of it. No tsunami system would be able to detect it quick enough for sufficient warning.
