I didn't bother seeing I-Robot, I can tell it sucked because it is a big budget film based on a script which has the same name as a famous story and it stars Will Smith. Did anyone see Ali? Was it any good?
Will Smith's earlier work before he became Mr. Big Time Action Hero wasn't bad. I thought Six Degrees of Seperation was quite good, for example. But then again, I thought the first MIB was pretty good too (agree with you on the rest, though).

      Ali
      Enemy of the State
      Six Degrees of Seperation
      Bad Boys
      Shark Tale

I thought Men in Black I was okay at the time. Not really watchable anymore now because CGI has advanced so much further, but still...

I, Robot was fairly decent, for a Hollywood flick. Not worthy of its title of course, but if you pretend it's called something else it wasn't bad. Of course, it should be regarded an action movie, not serious scifi.

A book that's no good - oh well.

        A movie that's no good - what a disgrace.
I don't think you understand how spectacularly a book can suck.

He should try reading the 'Chronicles of Thomas Covnent' then

Yeah, that's my number 2 disappointment.

Ali actually was pretty good. Somehow they did pull that one off.

I actually read that book. Then I burned it.

                  • Philip K. Dick. I started reading him as a teenager, and have always found him tending to be pretentious. He also makes the mistake, IMHO, that ideas can take the place of good writing. I'd have to unpack my box of his books, there may have been something I found OK. (get's ready to dodge strong disagreement).

                          • I must say that I liked Starship Troopers and I liked it better than the book. I think the battle against the bugs at that fort was terrific. Really amazing.

But I do agree about the SciFi Channel. A lot of boring stuff.

You guys all seem to miss the point about Jar-Jar.

Of course he's obnoxious. Of course he's irritating. Of course he's stupid.

But he also cast the swing vote that brought Palpatine to power.

Which turns out to be an obnoxious, irritating, stupid thing to do.

                              • It felt that having Jar-Jar do that was a form of penance that Lucas offered because of his, Jar-Jar's, presence in TPM.
