Before we even know the final numbers, this is already 25 times worse than 9/11 in loss of human life and probably even more in loss of property. 9/11 was a minor incident in retrospect. This disaster was more like something from the Old Testament.

But will it get proportional response? Will as much $/€/£ be spent on helping the victims as was spent on bombing and shooting people after 9/11?

Back on topic, very few of the 1500 Swedes that were unaccounted for 24 hours ago have been heard from. They are still gone.

As there were about 20 000 Swedish survivors, almost everybody in the country know someone who was there. I saw the brother of a guy from my job being interviewed on national TV when he arrived at the airport. He said he had seen numerous people die.

That certainly is...biblical in proportions. I have never heard of a 9.0 quake before.
