What exactly do you want? An exhaustive list of when you can or can't slay an intruder, complete with diagrams? Perhaps in a handy booklet with an index, so that a householder faced with a burglar can conveniently flick to the relevant section to see if he's in the clear or not?

Or a simple test of reasonability? Like we have now?

I'll say it again- do you have any conception of how rare it is for a homeowner assaulting or killing a burglar to be prosecuted? Trust me- it's rare. I know of two householders being imprisoned in the past decade. However we have a tabloid-generated barrage of bull**** that has left people thinking they can't defend themselves. That's not true and never has been.

My rule of thumb - if you kill someone, dispose of the body and keep your trap shut. Regardless if you are in the right or the wrong.

And yes i think a pamphlet with diagrams might be a good idea really - as this is part of the problem, many people really dont know where the law stands on this - so any way to get it across in any easy to digest format would be a good idea. Like those neat 'terror' booklets we all had recently
