Actually, the opinion I express there is usually associated with the Right. I don't like Politicqal Correctness. I am tempted to believe that The Corporations promote PC as a way of dividing people up into nice marketable, controlable, little chunks of humanity that is unable to join forces with anybody who wouldn't fill out the exact same set of little boxes on a form.

However, I think it's more to do with highly prejudiced people trying desperately to pretend they're not, that's why their heads explode with PC'isms when confronted with a human of a different hue. People who really arent secretly steeped in prejudice just don't worry about PC'isms as much because they don't find such differences alarming, or a cause to panick and talk bolloxs.

That's what I think anyway.

I also think the PC-Industry promotes PCness, because overwise where would all those Sociology Students find a place for themselves in the world, if not advising on some Race & Gender Committee somewhere. One of the more famous ones in the UK recenty started going on about how Travellers are a race too.

They must be running out of 'oppressed minorities' to seek government money pre-litigating for. I can't stand the victim-mentality that PC champions so mightily. If they have their way, people in Africa and Asia and Latin America will start to PC'erize themselves, like poorer people in 'inner cities' all over the West are already ghettoizing themselves as quikly as they can (as per instructions). People in the 3rd world have more Heart then that though, and unfortunately, too many real problems to buy into it.

PC is all part of the cultural image-suite put out by the big world Bull**** Exporter IMHO.

So what kind of medication are you on?

Not all PC is necessarily a bad idea. Part of it is also about not being a dumb****. Don't throw out the delicious bathwater with the repellent baby.

I don't know how your danish and swedish are, but i can assure you that in Denmark the same is allowed (ok, some PC persons still twitch, but they are mainly ignored). If you are not that strong in those two languages you have missed that swedish politicians has declared that denmark is turning into at least a racistic nazi country. Not because we do anything cruel to somebody, just because people talk openly about issues.

Funny enough (no, the subject isn't funny ) but danish tv has for some time ago shown a documentary about how female circumcision is professionally organised in sweden - i don't know if it has ever been shown in sweden.

Really, i don't like the expression - female circumcision - it has no relation to male circumcision. The latter is only a question of removing some excess skin where the first is comparable with .... no, can't find a comparation. The result although is that the women is turned into a simple birthmachine.

Well, not being a racist/sexist jerk is a good thing. I really don't believe people need Political Correctness Thought-Crime Principals to know how to get on well enough with other human beings. And I don't think it's something to shout about if you have to 'Tolerate' people who are different from you, as opposed to simply accept/have-no-particular-thoughts about peoples differences.

I also think that people should be able to say that a religion sucks without being called racist. For one thing, although each religion belives itself to be somehow different and exceptional... at the end of the day they are just ideas. Any society where ideas can't be challeneged, or said to suck (especially when they're as judgemental, prejudicial, narrow-minded, anthropocentric and backward as religions tend to be),
isn't a society I want to stand up for.

Not as far as I know...
The main debate in Sweden now is about the evil men beating up their wives and generally oppressing them. Some of the problems immigrant (mainly muslim) women in Sweden experience are discussed in that context, however, so I guess you could say that we are doing some small progress even here.

It seems to me this is an African ritual rather than a Muslim ritual. Some of those who practice it are Muslims, others are Christians, some belong to other religions, but all of them are Africans. I may be wrong, but this is my perception of the situation.
