    Asher,

I'm currently doing Folding@Home from Stanford?

Is there a relationship between this group and them? Are they folding the same proteins, or have they merged ?

Folding@home and the Human Proteome folding project are VERY-VERY-VERY different.

Folding@home aims to get at the science of how a small number of proteins of KNOWN structure fold dynamically. Folding@home is a project to further understanding of the folding process itself. They use a technique termed "molecular dynamics".

The Human Proteome Folding Project (this project) will predict the structures of proteins of UNKNOWN-structure, lots of them, tons of them. The aim of this project is to get structures and functions for huge numbers of proteins so that biologists and biomedical researchers who run into these mystery proteins in their research can look to our database for functional/mechanistic clues about their favorite mystery-proteins.

Both projects are good stuff, one is for Physics peeps and one is for biologists…

For more info on all this stuff see our site (including pictures of proteins):

Mine had finished its first package, but zonealarm prevented it from doing anything with it. Now its sent off and our team is slightly better off.

Asher might be on to something here. My first package took 14:54 hours to complete. The new one has 20 % done in 2 hours.

No Linux client? Too bad, I would install it on my server at home, which is 24/7 on the net. My Windows desktop is just not online enough to be of significant help, and there is no way I would leave it on over my work day just for this.

Not sure: my 1st one finished during the night after 28 hours.
After 4 hours of work on the second one i was up to 8% only.
                  What?

I''ve joined. It's a long term investment since I may one day have to use the results of this project in my own career.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. first one was done in about 8 hours, it seems... but it's not showing up on the stats page. no error message about not being able to send it in, so i guess there's some sort of delay.

The stats are updated nightly only.

Humm I've been working with the new package for 40 minutes now but its still at 0.0% done. I guess this might take a while
Or then their sofware is broken

Nah, i just think that some packages are bigger than others like Asher said.
The one i'm working on right now is bigger than the first one i had: either they send them randomly or maybe they need to update their stats before they can determine how long it took a certain PC to process one package?... Since mine was sent during the night, it didn't appear on today's stats.

What the hell? I had the program on for 2 and a half hours now, progress at 1.8 % Then suddenly it just scraps the whole package and gets anew one frm the server. Now the task CPU time is at 2 min...

                                Whats going on here?
