I might commit suicide, but for other reasons. Even though I'm passionately anti-Bush, his being in office doesn't negatively affect me on a personal level. It's more like a soap opera and Bush is a character I hate and want to die.

I understand this guy's frustration, but disagree over his method. There were obviously other issues going on here. And it's really too bad they weren't addressed.
To us, it is the BEAST.

      Well, MtG, let's see...

      (1) The White House floated the idea that this last election might have to be "postponed" if there were another terrorist attack. Following the vehement reaction to that idea, the White House backed off.

      (2) Bush's economic plan is gibberish. Bush sought re-election with the argument the economy is doing well...unemployment down to 5+%, homeownership at an all-time high, etc. And so he plans to make the deficit, which were supposed to temporary to revive the economy, permanent by making the tax cuts permanent. Non-military spending is increasing 8% per year; military spending is going up even faster. Bush has already run up more debt in four years than any other President. Every baby in American is born owing a $20,000 "birth tax" as his share of the deficit.

Bush plans to create private investment accounts in Social Security will cost $2 trillion. To pay for it, he will need to: (a) cut benefits by $2 trillion; (b) raise taxes by $2 trillion, or (c) add $2 trillion to the deficit.

Bush plans to "streamline" the tax system. If that's what he does, great...but my guess is "steamline" is code for more tax breaks for the superwealthy.

And in the face of this, Bush promises to cut the deficit in half.

      (3) The re-elction isn't even a week old yet, and already there's a schism in the Republican Party. Conservative Republicans are gunning for moderate Republicans such as Spector, who had the nerve to point out that, if Bush nominate wingnut justices who want to overturn Roe v. Wade, the Democrats will filibuster.

      (4) Although Bush stated bin Laden couldn't run and hide, he's done both for three years. What if he does it for another four...? And what if Iraq turns into an unending bloodbath? Our presence there is already creating terrorists at a rate faster than we can kill them off.

Bottom line: Bush has peaked. So fasten your seatbelts...it's going to be a bumpy ride.

It would be better if he realized the errors of his ways and embraced the ideals of the Democratic Party.

sorry, I don't believe in "born again" Democrats.

This guy needed to grow up and realise that the world isn't centered just around him and his personal views on what is right and wrong - in terms of the country's direction and presumably just about every other aspect of life.

Now it's too late for him, but maybe by his actions, he's inadvertently left a message to others along those lines. I certainly hope so.

                Actions speak louder than words.

On the flip side, how can you prove that you know why he did it? He didn't leave a note saying, "my guy lost!" Yet you are firmly convinced that's why he did it.

This guy may have gone to somewhere he felt was symbolically significant, but his act was stil a generally private one.

This guy must have had a history of low self-esteem, depression, or deen under great stress that while exacerbated by the election, was not caused by it.

                  There is no difference whatsoever.

His act has now been seen by everyone in the country.

I have seen more judgements in this thread than just about any thread before.

So much for JohnT's theory about the right not being arrogant.

How do you know what his intention was?

Maybe he just wanted to kill himself after seeing New York City.

See, that's what happens when you don't read the thread completely.

Well, since you're baiting, I'll just say you appear to be the expert on both of those points Sava.

The man must have been mentally unstable beforehand, and this was just an excuse for suicide.

If not, then he was just an idiot.
