Jesus was not a Robin Hood type - he was more like a conscientious objector.
So the position of the religious right is to conscientiously object to the ****ing over of the poor while voting for politicians who will do it with most glee.
You are so cute Potemkin Village. Especially when you are wrong, which is almost always.

Makes sense to me...
Oh, the RR is inconsistent all right, but not in the way you were implying.

Lets put it this way: When liberals think they are right, they think the other side is stupid, and people will have to wallow in ignorance and poverty.
Hardly. They think everyone else is too stupid to think for themselves and need somebody to take care of them, whether they like it or not.
When religous conservatives think they are right, they think the other people are evil, or will be damned in eternity, and wait for the time when they will be in heaven - and I guess can then enjoy watching the suffering of everyone else during Armageddon.
Of course, some people volunteer their ignorance and prove the liberals' point...
The majority do NOT oppose abortion. 60% say they support the ability of a woman to chose to have an abortion (certainly early on, support declines as time goes on) even if they don't feel confortable with doing it.
That is a nuanced position- not the my way or you are going to hell moralizing of the right.
Except when pressed to explain such things as when a foetus becomes a "human being," or why a woman's temporary inconvenience should decide whether a human being lives or dies.
Both uninvolved third parties and expectant mothers can only countenance abortion by convincing themselves the foetus isn't really human.
It reminds me of the Black Knight: "It's just a flesh wound!"
I would really like it if God did exist. It would be amusing to see the look on the fundies' faces as the overlord sent them to hell.
Perhaps He would say: "Oh, that littlte thing about the first shall be last. Well, what I really meant was that you were first in life, so now you're going to be first again. Goodbye."

The funny thing is that the religious right profess to be Christians. Jesus Christ was unquestionably a Robin Hood type. Why is it then that fundies consistently vote for the Sheriff of Nottingham?
Absolutely not! Nowhere did Jesus say anything should be taken from the rich, nor anything given to the poor at the expense of the rich. "Robin Hood" is just as immoral as the Sheriff.
Jesus talked about charity, giving out of love rather than obligation.

Don't be silly. They wouldn't vote for the Sheriff of Nottingham. Nottingham is in England.
They'd vote for the Sheriff of Birmingham..... Selma...... Memphis...... Little Rock.......

Excuses excuses. Presumably the point of being a Christian is to give rather than take. Frankly, Xtians should give away all their material possessions and devote their lives to helping others.
Pity all the righties just take, and take, and take....

Kerry's job was to show he could be a more effective Commander-in-Chief. He failed, that's why he lost.
Good point. Even if he showed he could be as good a CinC, people would be reluctant to change horses in mindstream (in the famous words of FDR).
As to Kerry's attacks on Tora Bora, the missing HE, etc., most people understoond this attack to be misplaced as it was clear that Bush had properly delegated the actual conduct of the war to the generals. Even if these events were screwups, Bush never blamed the generals, for which at least in part the generals came out strongly for Bush. In the end, these attacks may have actually hurt Kerry as they seem directed at our fighting men and not Bush.

No. As it was, it was very close with Johnson's VP, Humphrey, who never broke from Johnson's Vietnam policy. I think Johnson would have gotten just a few more votes than Humphrey and would have won the election.
(Also, note that Johnson was a Southerner and Humphrey was a Northern Liberal. This factor by itself would have gotten Johnson a few more Southern states.)
