Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

Heh. You're not the only one.Originally posted by FrustratedPoet
I'm not ashamed to say I shed a few tears reading that first post. It seems weird to have those emotions about a guy I've never met, but that's the kind of guy Chris is.
I got a little misty-eyed myself upon reading Vel/Gil's last post.
It's wonderful to hear he's feeling better.
Scared the living beejesus out of me for a while there ...
CapTVK could you possibly leave a nice blank space in the spot where my avatar might otherwise be?

Just like many posters here, Vel's articulate and eloquent analyses of SMAC/X was what drew me here at Apolyton.
I've been lurking some time before I actually registered, so I can say with enough confidence that Vel is a unique poster in that not only his observations are always sharp and intelligent and his prose elaborate and fun, but also he never wavers from being polite to others and humble about himself and his literary skills.
I always enjoy reading Vel's stuff, and whatever he's talking about, it uniformly inspires me. That's why Vel's strategy guide for SMAC/X is still the only e-book I've ever paid for downloading.
So Vel, just remember you're a tough guy who conquered much in life in the way of adversity, you have a unique perspective on life which a lot of people cherish, and hell yes you'll overcome this thing too!
You're in our thoughts and keep up the spirit!
