  • Statements are concepts strung together. Strings of symbols are our method of encoding and transmitting these statments. A universe in which people could communicate concepts directly, with no need for a language of any kind, is entirely conceivable.

      • That's my argument with Ramo, not with you.

Anyway, there is such a system already - a human mind. You don't use sounds when you are reasoning in your mind.

You're not concerned with real world problems. You're getting caught up in the debate. You're distracting other people with your nonsense.

              • Ramo is the one not concerned about it. He's the one who brought up the subject of language being imprecise as, somehow, a criticism of relativism.

                • Both of you don't seem to be getting to the bottom of things. It has led you to make idealistic claims that really have nothing to do with the subject.

                  • My favourite part of any debate thread is when Kuci comes along and starts 8 new arguments at once.

What does any of this have to do with real world problems in the first place? There are moral absolutists and relatvists on both sides of political discussion.

Abstract discussions are good, because that is how we may attempt to look at arguments from another plane, since they are tainted at the surface.

I don't care for it, because you get what we have here. People debating whether or not you can communicate without language. I see no value to it given the real issue.

Well some people may not see value the real issue . Abstract discussions can be good fun as well. Hell, moral relativity discussions are somewhat abstract, this is just another level.

People get carried away with it though. That's what I think happened. At least I wasn't seeing any connection to reality in their discussion.

                              • Sometimes a lack of connection to reality in a discussion makes it a better discussion, which can later, if you want, be attached to reality.
