We pressured Brahimi into appointing Allawi.

Actually, from what I remember, both Brahimi and the U.S. wanted Shahristani to be appointed Prime Minister of Iraq. When he turned it down, however, they went with Plan B, which was Allawi. Good thing there are liberal talking points to correct my traitorous memory...

The point again, was why Brahimi appointed Allawi. And that was largely because of US pressure.

Oh, so Allawi is a "thug only in power because the US put him there" even though he wasn't even the first choice of the US and only got to where he was due to pressure from Shia politicians that removed the real choice of the US from the picture. Interesting interpretation of events...

I really wanted fillet mignon for lunch, but I settled for a sandwich. I guess that means I had absolutely no choice in what to have for lunch.

            Oh yeah.

And who do you think appointed the Shia exiles to positions of power? Brahimi too?

"Only in power because the US put him there" implies that the US was solely responsible for Allawi's appointment, which is obvious bull****. Keep on spinning though, kid...

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

He wouldn't have had power if it weren't for our preference for him. Period.

We appointed Allawi and the other Shia exiles to the IGC who objected to losing their power, and we appointed Brahimi to head the comission to choose the gov't. The IGC we appointed nominated Allawi, and we pressured Brahimi into accepting Allawi (who had strong ties to the CIA and State).

Exactly. The IGC nominated Allawi, the same IGC that ****ed the US over on the appointment of Shahristani, showing just how much control the US actually had over them. Thanks for proving my point.

Again, we pressured Brahimi (who objected to keeping power in the hands of the IGC) into appointing Allawi.

Yes, Bremer and Co. did put some pressure on Brahimi to accept Allawi's appointment. You can't show that Allawi is "only in power because the US put him there", however, since such a statement is blatantly untrue; the IGC is far more responsible for Allawi's appointment than the US is.

                        Class dismissed...

We also appointed both Brahimi and the IGC.

                          Yes, class dismissed.
