      • They realized that the 'national championship' was just a totally subjective measure and it was decided by the various polls that were around.

        • And how do you change the qualifying rules in the middle of a BCS contract?
          Fair point.

Don't laugh, remember when OU was favored by 14 last year over Kansas State?
Kansas State: 10-3, ranked #13 by the AP, screwed Heisman candidate (Darren Sproles).
Colorado: 7-4, unranked, no Heisman candidate.

          I think there's a bit of a difference there.

And, after all, West Virginia was ranked 10th in the AP Preseason poll.
Only to justify the conference still getting an automatic bid. It was artificially high, everyone knew it, and they've gone on to prove it in spades.

Sorry, I confused that with the first losing season Nebraska has had in however many years. However, its actually 43 years since the last losing year.
Will you finally admit that Bill Callahan sucks as a football head coach? I've only been saying this since before Tampa took him to the woodshed almost two years ago.

Man! Tennessee's defense has sucked the last two weeks. The Tigers are going to shread the Vols if the defense plays like that next week.

Schaffer is back at practice for UT. He will likely get significant playing time against Auburn. Still, I think Auburn just brings to much for the Vols to handle.

Still hoping that the Vols will bring their best game of the season and that Auburn will bring their worst. If Auburn would finish #3 in the BCS then I see no reason not to spoil their season and take a taste of sugar for The Big Orange Nation!

I think it's a little early to be making that determination. Ask me in 3 more years.

It may take longer than that. Nebraska and Oklahoma have a lot of the same recruiting base. Where would you want to go if you were a star prospect?

                • Nebraska. You know you're going to get playing time right away at Nebraska, while you'll have to fight tooth and nail for PT at Oklahoma.

Nebraska's also been expanding into new territory with this year's recruiting class. There are more kids from Cali than we've had in a long time...

Well if you don't like that example, how about the 1996 Big XII Championship when an unranked Texas beat #3 Nebraska?

It's a game where upsets are not rare.

And OU isn't as impressive at this point as they were last year. Their D especially.

Only to justify the conference still getting an automatic bid. It was artificially high, everyone knew it, and they've gone on to prove it in spades.

Yeah, it was a conspiracy by the AP. Hehe... Actually in the preseason, Athlon's Rankings had WV at 5th. Most ranking had the Mountaineers in the Top 20 and just about everyone had them ranked above Cal. They may have been badly incorrect (which they also were on Kansas State, mind), but there was a feeling that West Virginia was one of the better teams in the country and would get that BCS spot.

Will you finally admit that Bill Callahan sucks as a football head coach?

No. Putting a West Coast offense in a school with a personnel suiting an option team is just going to be a painful transition. He'll be a decent head coach, but somewhere Frank Solich is smiling since Callahan's Nebraska will not get to levels Nebraska is used to.

                    • Why would Frank Solich be smiling? He lost his job because Nebraska dropped to levels we aren't used to on his watch...

TO has the right to smile, but he wouldn't do that. Deities are above such things...

                      • The BCS has me rooting for U$C to win. How messed up is that? Replace the BCS with a play off now!

Hmm... let's see... he won 9 games last year... and this year, the team has a losing season for the first time in 41 years. I'd be smiling too in that situation.
