  • Why is the "Current standings" in this forum so different from the current standings posted in the General forum?

Thus, the hall worthy posters will continue to gather votes day in and day out because their contributions to Apolyton are timeless.

        and

Why Do People who received no votes last time expire ?

Their votes expire and they are zeroed and kicked off the list because they were not found to be interesting at the time of the last vote or two. This is done so as to keep the hall clear¡K

This new process certainly keeps the hall current (a la Major League Baseball¡¦s Hall of Fame)

I was recommended not to carry over votes at all, but will continue that tradition, at least for this election because of the idea that we don¡¦t just want ¡§flavor of the month¡¨ posters elected. We want people who have contributed over a long period of time.

        (as a guess)

I have to agree with Skanky. There are many, particularly on-topic posters, that provide valuable input but don't have the exposure to get in on 4 ballots.

            • Yeah, I'd say the one purging already done has sufficiently removed any excessive bias for OTers.

              • Actually purging old votes only effects to getting rid of people who is not around much currently, even if they did have a great contribution to the site.

Maybe all votes should be accompanied with a reason of vote. Like "Jamski for being Spamski, Skanky for being MPS, and Spiky for being the evil doctor", or whatever.

Or maybe different area should get their own hall of honor, then the OTers will not be able to get their hands all over.

                  • I think this would be far more interesting if we were also given the option of voting people off the list.

well it would help delete any progress made by 'flavor of the month' posters.

Why is the "Current standings" in this forum so different from the current standings posted in the General forum?
I'm only updating in this thread this time because I have so many threads.

Locutus had a good suggestion of this sort, but I'm still sort of unsure exactly whether its going to be a great idea to implement. His idea makes good sense but its still hard to determine whether certain people qualify as "Civ III poster, OT poster, civ II poster" etc. especially if they've been around for a while... some old civ IIers now post in the OT exclusively, etc. That's why I'm unsure about signing up for that.

Ok thanks. I don't mind a periodic reset. Wiithin reason of course, what you proposed, erasing all but the last two sessions votes, seems reasonable to me. Of course making that a permanent policy for each session would be bad, but otherwise I think its a good idea.

But... is it changing again? Now what?
well, I was proposing allowing only 3 voting times to carry over in the future... but I could be talked out of that fairly easily since now the "OT-focused" purge is completed.

                          • Because some people no longer care about post count and really don't give a damn anymore whether they get a +1 or not.

                              • Well i've got 1380 posts to go until I hit Emporer, with my current rate of .9 posts a day that means it'll take me a bit over 4 years to do it. Its not gonna happen, so I really don't care anymore.
