    Viable, believable Nostradamus Quatrains:

Actual translations or translations of convenience? As we've been shown, the quatrains can be translated in many different ways. I guess it is easier to translate a prediction when you already know what you want it to say, right?

    I'm just an open-minded idiot.

Well that's the first true thing you've said so far .

If you want me to give you the actual French, for you to translate for yourself, I can certainly do that. The city names, you'll find, aren't really open to translation.

      But I appreciate your refutation.

I've seen the actual French... I've also seen the loops gone through to 'adapt' the old French and certain letters which are taken out mean something in the form of numerology. You can make it mean whatever you want.

Do you really want me to give you the French for those particular quatrains? You'll find that they match up translation-wise.

And Nostradamus did use Latin in many of them (in fact, "Nostradamus" is the Latinized form of "Michel de Nostradam")...but you'll find direct translations there as well.

I've never seen the numerology, but I have seen the translations, and that's what I go on.

Do you have the old French? It was pretty different back then you know? And like I said, there have been loops to adapt it to something translatable, with a lot of well, this word could have meant X, but also Y, and Y fits with our view better, etc, etc.

They will bend any of his writings to fit their own interpretations, including fussing with the translations and playing loose and fast with names.

Alright, fine, you called me on it. Let's look at the third quatrain I put up:

De tout Marseille des hapitants changee, Course & poursuitte jusqu'au pres de Lyon, Nalbon Tholoze par Bordeaux outragee, Tuez captifs presque d'un million.
I don't speak French, but from a translation site I find this:

Out of any Marseilles of the hapitants changee, Race & poursuitte jusqu'au close to Lyon, Nalbon Tholoze by Bordeaux outragee, Kill captive almost d'un million.

Now, that seems close to the English translation. Nalbon is the apocope (ie Medieval abreviation) of Narbonne. The site I went to doesn't really translate "poursuitte", but a friend of mine that does speak French told me that it does in fact mean "pursue". The translation is close enough that it doesn't seem to require someone to look at "this word could have meant X, but also Y".

Should I translate all of them?

Do I really have to translate EVERY quatrain I gave?

Did you at least read my post about those quatrains which are closer to his native land and time period?

Nostradamus wrote ****loads and ****loads of prophecies. If you're willing to use a lot of crazy numerology (i.e. the "cycle of the moon" thing), and pidgeonhole innocuous words into convenient historical figures (i.e. Hister-actually part of the Danube/Hitler), it isn't that big a deal when you find some of these prophecies coming "true."

That looks like MODERN French, so no, it doesn't prove any of your point.

That's modern French. That isn't what he originally wrote.

I believe I've shown that there is a DIRECT PROPHECY relating to those made closer to his nation/time period/areas that existed during that time.

Of course, you ignored that, and ignored the statement at the very BEGINNING of my post.

Which is ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME as the MODERN FRENCH VERSION
