I agree. Batman kicks Superman's ass. There was one time, they were together in Antartica and Superman lost his powers. He was sitting there, all shivering and cold and freezing, and Batman just looks at him and goes "*****"...or something along those lines.

                I say to you, evil-doers...

                KNOCK OFF ALL THAT EVIL!

Even though when I read comics, Spider-man was my favorite, the coolest of all-time has to go to the Tick.

Favorite Spidey story was the rise and fall of the original Hobgoblin (not that lamo Jack-O-Lantern who became the Hobgoblin later). I even figured out who he was months in advance, by looking at his nose.

Are you talking about the Hobgoblin Lives miniseries? If so, I completely agree. What was his name? Roderick something or other, I believe.

Nah, the original Hobgoblin, Ned Leeds, Betty Leeds (J. Jonah Jameson's secretary) husband, reporter for the Daily Bugle. He had discovered a secret lair of the Green Goblin and tried to replicate his experiment, but without staying in the solution long enough to induce homocidal insanity. He thought he succeeded, but he failed.

He managed to know out Spidey's Spider sense with some gas, but I caught a spot where I could have earned a No-Prize cuz they used the Spidey-sense waves when he was being attacked. I should have sent in for it, but I was too lazy to bother.

After Ned died, Jack-O-Lantern stole the Hobgoblin's battle van and decided to switch identities, but he lacked HG's super strength, so he was never really a match for Spidey.

As soon as I saw that, I remembered good old Ned. He did have some fine stories in the main books. Roderick Kingsley is the guy I was thinking of, whom the miniseries pinned the rap on, casting Leeds as a patsy, IIRC (but, going off a rusty memory from several years back, I may easily not be). Whether or not you liked the retcon, it was a pretty well done series.

No question that the Macendale Hobgoblin was crap.

According to Wikipedia, Solo's miniseries put down the "true" history of the hobgoblin. In that it wasn't Leeds afterall, but that he was framed.

P.S. I added the hobgoblin picture there.....

i've never read a comic book, but i know a little about most of the characters like from animated shows...

i think the best are Spawn, Batman, the Punisher, the Wolverine, and the Beast (how could you not give him a slot?)

why? they're the only characters that have any complexity and have a dark side to them. These run of the mill 'perfect' heroes like Captain America are corny and unrealistic while 'perfect but misunderstood' ones like Spiderman are equally unrealistic.

If you're a hero who has undergone a traumatic experience (batman's parent's being murdered, spawn being murdered, punisher's family being murdered, wolverine and beast being oppressed for being mutants), become seperated from society and spend your time fighting (and killing) criminals, you're bound to have a sinister dark aspect to you.

                                Spider-man doesn't have complexity?

His parents were killed at an early age (plane crash) he was totally isolated at school. Few friends and picked on by everyone. A social outcast. Plus no matter how much good he seeks to do, he never gets much credit for it. Plus he can't really get close to people for fear of putting them in danger.

Did you see Spider-Man 2? That boy's got issues.

edit: I did put Beast on there (sorta) he is under "other X-Men"
