It seems the Dems are trying with Zell. They want him out and if he was running for Senate this year, I'm sure they'd try to get a more 'Democratic' candidate.
Certainly the party would try to get someone who voted with the republicans less than 90% of the time in their column.

Excuse me but when did I say their was only one way to be black, any individual can have any political persuasion they wish. Its the use of minority candidates by the Republican party that I find objectionable. Puting out a prominent minority candidate that hold views 180 degrees from what the magority of their group express is a blatant atempt at exploiting both them and the general publics ignorance.

When people with no political knowlage see Condelesa Rice they will asume because of her gender and race that she is more moderate then she realy is and thus the administration is moderate and inclusive of minorities and the isshues they care for. This couldn't be further from the truth and the maintance of the lie depends on people ignorance and predjidice. The Black republicans ofcorse want this to happen their republicans after all anything thats good for the party is desirable so they are eager for it. Their not Uncle Tom or any such thing, its the atempt to project a false image which I find detestable, not the idea that someone is a "traitor" or a "sell out".

And as I pointed out Minorities arn't fooled by the trick, blacks supported Gore 90% vs a Republican president with not one 2 blacks in the highest levels of goverment. So if republicans are not trying or atleast not succeding at tricking blacks themselves into voting Republican who are they trying to trick. Moderate whites ofcorse, ones who care about racial integration and would be turned off by signs of overt bigotry (unfortunatly these same individuals may not be savy enough to actualy do the reserach to realize whats underneath). Democrates stand by their long record of support for civil rights and afirmitive action, its whats on the inside that counts for them. In contrast the republican party simply tries to make itself LOOK like the people who wont vote for them. Black conservatives are intentialy pushed to the forfront and apointed to prominent positions to maximize their visability.

As people catch on to the tactic and learn to judge people as individuals and not make asumptions about their politicas from their skin color the tactic will be incressingly less effective, in the meantime Republicans are simply exploiting prejidice to mislead people as to their political intents.

The purpose of trotting out tokens in the GOP isn't to fool minorities. It's to fool Republicans into thinking they really aren't racists. Black Republicans complain constatly of being ignored until campaign season, at which time they're trotted out to prove how inclusive the party is. After the election, they're told to go shut up again. Most white folks, even Republicans, will not vote for a party which is openly racist.

                  I said Republican and No.

I said republican because Libertarian wasn't an option, and last time I voted for a D or R, it was a straight R ticket.

                    • I REFUSE to vote in any poll that lacks a true 'banana' option. I mean what the heck is going on here?!?

However I didn't think of that until after I voted.

What a crock. Condi decides if she runs and individuals decide if they vote for her, which I would, provided she's pro life. Powell would be pres right now if he wanted to be and if the chads voted the same way.

                      • No he's one of those wishy washy socialist republicans that the senate seems to have alot of. He claims he's a republican but in reality he's really a liberal with an identity crisis. I've met the kind before they swear up and down they're republicans because they agree with a couple of republican issues, but when you get right down to it they're about as liberal as they come.

what do you define as a liberal?

and have you chickened out of the small debate we were having?

So appoint black people to the Supreme COurt, the Sec. of State, and the NSA is ignoring them?

The Republican Party establishment did not go after Specter BTW. The Toomey campaign was led by right-wing insurgents actively fighting the establishment. THe GOP tolerates dissent.
