My suspision is that W is actualy so vapid as to be unable to absorb what little information he was given and was thus able to keep on performing such a meaningless task.

Becoming hopelessly deep in shock and though would atleast indicate a COMPREHENSION of the significance of the events in question, taking some kind of apropriate action would have been even better ofcorse.

Alexander's Horse is right on the mark conserning Cheny, all reports indicate it was Cheny who first started to organize a response and most pointedly HE DID NOT ASK BUSH FOR PERMISSION OR HELP (I cant belive for a second that if Dick Cheny had wished he could have had Bush on the phone in a nanosecond). If this dosent show us who the power behind the throne is then you must truely be brain-dead.

Finaly as for W "thinking" he is in charge I dont think its that simple. I suspect that the ENTIRE Bush administration is engaged in a massive "Double Think" ala 1984. Bush knows he is a pawn AND thinks he is in charge at the same time! Dick knows he is lieing through his teeth AND belives the lie as he says it. This is how they can be rabidly ideologicaly motivated AND complete sell outs at the same time. How they can say one thing and do another and think they have been honest. Its truely horifying when you think about it.

I don't trust those phrases. They could mean a lot of things. Why doesn't the author say exactly what he was doing. Rarely do people do nothing. Perhaps he was thinking. At least if he was doing nothing and thinking he was avoiding distractions, unlike Bush.

Are you sure Cheney tried to give orders to shoot down jets? I've been wondering about this but haven't found anything that says one way or the other.
